Dream

by Carlson

It was a strange feeling, being back in this place. He'd been away for so long, seen so many things...

Yet, something incredibly familiar caught his eye as he walked passed: the infuriatingly condescending look of a Keaton plastered on the face of a young boy. He grabbed the boy's shoulders, questioning as to where he might procure that mask. The boy told him and then staggered off slowly, muttering "Ya crazy" under his breath.

He ran into the mask shop, and without hesitation ran up to the owner, beaming, and shouted, "There you are! After you disappeared, I feared it was all a dream, but..." His face fell as he realized the man before him was thoroughly confused.

He turned, frowning to himself, uttering a feeble, "Never mind," as he stepped away. Maybe it all was a dream, after all...

But just as the young man was beyond the threshold, the shop owner grinned fiendishly.
