Summary: Yagyuu thinks Niou is a disease, or perhaps a foreign invasive species.
----------------
Yagyuu thinks Niou is a disease. Or rather, a foreign invasive species.
Before Niou came to Rikkai, there existed only a Yagyuu.
Yagyuus' are known to be very realistic, calm, and show very little emotion.
They are mentally stable, and physically don't stand out.
They always abide by the rules, and do everything their elders tell them to, and are generally good, if rather boring, people.
They thrive on law and order, and are called 'Gentleman'.
Before Niou existed, Yagyuu was very much Yagyuu, and everyone else were very much themselves too.
Then of course, on his first day of middle school, a Niou transferred in to his class.
Nious' are not Yagyuus', and therefore contain no similar traits.
After the first ten minutes of class, Yagyuu had deduced several facts about Nious'.
Niou has a wild imagination, and is never calm, and never show very little emotion.
Their sanity is questionable, and in that matter, their physical appearance is too.
Nious' have never heard the words 'rules' and 'follow' in the same sentence, and never do anything they don't want to. He is positive that Niou will become one of the most popular students in his class in a matter of hours.
Yagyuu is still staring when Niou is asked to choose a seat.
And of course Niou happily plops himself down in the empty chair next to Yagyuu.
It isn't until Niou smirks that Yagyuu realizes he's still staring, and looks away.
They both join the tennis team that year, but neither receives a regulars position.
Yagyuu does not socialize with Niou.
Niou socializes with everybody.
Even Yagyuu can tell that people have become more like Niou, and less like themselves.
If he were a disease, he would have been slowly spreading among the people.
If he were a foreign invasive species, he would have taken root, and multiplied himself, so there were more of him, and less of everybody else, and there would eventually be nobody else.
But Niou can't really reproduce like that, could he?
Yagyuu refused to let him try.
When the end of the school year comes around, the principal issues his annual lecture.
There has been a dramatic increase in the amount of minor pranks being pulled around the school.
Yagyuu is not surprised. They didn't call Niou the 'Trickster' for nothing.
----------------
It isn't until they are doubles partners in the D1 position two years later, that Yagyuu learns that Niou is not an invasive species.
A second realization hits him harder than the first.
Yagyuu now understands that everyone has a hidden Niou inside.
Being around the real thing, simply draws it out.
----------------
Technically, it isn't logical, it's against everything he'd ever been taught.
The Niou side of Yagyuu tells him to screw logic.
Yagyuu finds that he really can't argue with that, when he's pressed against a locker, with Niou's mouth covering his own.
Distantly, Niou wonders when it was, that Yagyuu infected him.
Above him, Yagyuu know's he is no longer a Yagyuu.
