AN: I was eating some watermelon earlier. While trying to figure out how L would eat watermelon still on the rind, this idea came to me. Enjoy!
Thoughts of Watermelon
He didn't eat fruit much, but he made an exception for watermelon. It was sweet, but without the acidic tang of oranges, or apples. Light-kun was shocked to see healthy food in Ryuuzaki's hands, then was surprised again when he found out that he was as protective of the fruit as he was of his candy.
Outside, the city was covered with snow, grey light filtering into the room through a layer of clouds. Ryuuzaki picked up a piece of watermelon, the juice starting to drip down his thumb. It was hard to find perfectly ripe watermelon in the winter, but Watari had managed somehow, causing his respect for the old man to go up five percent. He popped the deep pink fruit into his mouth, licking the sticky residue from his hands.
Watermelon wasn't eaten simply for the taste, however. To him, it was a part of the many summers that he had been too busy to enjoy. It brought warm sun and shady trees, and beaches with many different shaped shells.
He glanced over at Light. Ryuuzaki wasn't sure how, but it seemed to him that Light did the same thing. Light was warm brown and gold in a room of cold winter computer screens. He seemed to radiate light and warmth naturally, reminiscent of the sun itself.
Light is like a watermelon, he thought and smiled at the odd logic before eating another piece.
