The grand idea for this has been mused on for a while. I'm not quite sure of the sentence flow, but I'm not quite sure how to fix it.
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto. However, I do think my intended plot is pretty original.
The day his cousin was born was abnormally cold. The wood floors creaked in some sort of horrible harmony under pacing footsteps, accompanying his aunt's labored shrieks. He had sat with the adults for a few hours, keeping his eyes wide open despite the early hour.
"Why don't you go back to sleep, Shisui?" his mother suggested as she ran her fingers through his hair. He shook his head. He needed to find something to focus on other than the sounds. She tried again. "Then how about you go play outside. When Obito gets back from his mission he can come keep you company." This time he managed a small smile and made his way down the hall. As he passed the birthing room he paused to watch the closed door. He didn't understand why Aunt Mikoto was screaming. Earlier he had asked his father if she was dying. He had been dealt that look in response. His father was fond of that expression, as it perfectly conveyed his disdain for the naiveté of children. Shisui, on the other hand, hated it. He gave a frown in the direction of the door. At that moment his aunt let out a particularly pain-filled wail and he scurried the rest of the way outside.
He couldn't remember how long he had walked; he had simply wandered until the cries were no longer discernable from the susurrations of his surroundings. He wound up on the riverbank. From his location he could just glimpse the police building graced with his clan's symbol above the opposite bank. It was so close. All he'd have to do to get there would be to cross the river. His mother didn't let him go swimming by himself though, and he didn't know where the nearest bridge was. He sighed and lay down on the grass.
The trees hung over him like monsters, waiting to snap him up. They were frozen, however, by the same chill that had made the house moan and the forest groan. They could only affect the blossoms as they dangled delicately from their nooses amongst the green. He watched the leaves shiver in sympathy before a sudden gust of wind swept a few from their perches and into the ever-rushing water.
He sat up quickly when he heard a rustling in the undergrowth. Scanning the area for a potential weapon, he picked up a pebble lying near him. To his relief, a rabbit untangled itself from the foliage, twitched its nose at him, and hopped to the edge of the river. Shisui faced forward and looked at the jagged stone resting in his palm. Having no better use for it, he threw it toward the water. It missed. In the few eerily quiet moments after the stone had lodged itself inside the hare, the boy's horrified gaze caught the animal's panicked eyes. Then the rabbit let out a screech that made his heart race. He sat frozen as he watched the creature writhe, before he finally managed to scramble away from the scene.
He met up with Obito on the way home. Shisui, now crying, ran to his older cousin and held on. The genin, in his typical comforting manner, gently pet his hair and spoke to him. Aunt Mikoto had named her son Itachi. They were both fine. In fact, they were waiting for him at the house.
Three things:
1)I know that Itachi was born in the middle of the summer. Let's just say that it's cold for the season.
2)About the rabbit screaming… When I was in about 4th grade, this guy came to talk to my school and he told us this story about when he was little and went rabbit hunting. Apparently he didn't kill it on the first try and it let out a scream of pain. That story has haunted me for years.
3)Reviews make me happy.
