The new Kid

Whispers flew around the school. The whispered taunts where normal, but they where normally aimed at me or my friend, Rory. Today they where aimed at a new kid.

"Poor kid," I said to Rory at lunch. The head cheerleader had just dumped her tray onto the kid's shirt. Rory shrugged.

"Better him than us, I just bought this shirt." He said. I rolled my eyes.

"I guess," I murmured, a soft sigh escaping my lips. Something about the new kid told me he was more than just a cute dork. Wait, cute? Where did that come from?

"Ethan!" A loud voice snapped me from my thoughts. It was Rory. "The new kid wants to know if he can sit here. I said I'll ask you." He said enthusiastically.

"Uh, I guess." The kid sat beside me. My heart fluttered. What the hell? I don't even know this kid's name!

"I'm Benny." I breathed in sharply. Even his name was cute.

Benny was even cuter up close. His hair was ruffled, like he just woke up. His eyes sparkled emerald green, framed by long, dark eye lashes. Even the worn-down gym shirt he was now wearing was cute. His lips looked soft, totally kissable. He was talking. What was he saying?

I wasn't listening. How are you supposed to listen to a guy that's this cute?

The bell rang loudly, signaling lunch was over. I sighed, throwing my tray in the trash before heading to my next class. A small part of me was glad Benny wasn't in this class. The other small part wanted to be around him all the time. The rest was just really confused.

I sat through chemistry, barely hearing a word the teacher said. I was thinking. About Benny, of course.

After school I ran the whole way home. And not just because it was raining.

As soon as I got inside, I ran up the stairs, ignoring my twelve year old sister, Jane. I went into my bedroom and slammed the door. I collapsed onto my bed, letting out a long breath of exhaustion.

"I think I'm in love," I whispered to nobody.
