First time writing a SoN story. Normally a Palex writer. Please be kind.
"Ashley, come on. You know how important this letter is to both of us. Hurry. Open it."
Here, I am staring at my girlfriend. We have been together for the last two years. It hasn't been easy, we have had a lot of close calls and rocky roads, but we made it through them all. No matter where our love has taken us, she always followed her heart. It always lead her straight back to me.
Now why is this letter so important you ask? Well. It is quite simple. It is a letter from the University of Georgia. I have already been accepted to UGA. Actually, on a full ride scholarship and I just couldn't turn that down. Since Ashley and I got together, I have helped turn her life around. She is actually doing her homework these days and actually studying and doing well on test. She now has a 3.5 GPA and actually has a chance to get into a great school, like UGA.
I was actually quite scared when I found out that I had gotten a full ride to UGA. I didn't know how this California native would take the news. I didn't know how she would take it when I told her that I was going to be moving several thousand miles away. When I broke down and told her, her reaction quite shocked me. She smiled at me and said, "Where ever you go, I will go. If this is what you want. I will go with you."
So, here we are. Ashley just got the letter in the mail and hasn't really moved since she looked at the envelope.
"Ashley, are you just going to sit there and look at it? Or are you going to open it?" I am starting to get impatient. I have to know what that letter says.
She looked at me with a look in her eyes that I have never seen before. Fear. The fear of loosing me. The fear of feeling like a failure. The fear of never feeling success. That is the first time that Ashley Davies has ever had that look in her eyes.
"Spence, do you realize what this letter could mean to me? To you? To us? This is the first time that I really have worked for something. I don't want them to say 'Your grades suck. Why did you even think of coming here?' I just couldn't bare that. I don't want to lose you."
"You won't ever lose me. You know that. And I don't think that they would say that your grades suck. You have worked so hard and done so well to bring up your grades. I couldn't imagine them turning you down. Plus, you are making all of these assumptions without even reading the letter first. So, open it up and let's find out the answers."
"I can't do it." Ashley handed me the letter. "You tell me."
I took the letter from Ashley's hands. I looked at her one more time and then at the letter and took a deep breath. 'Here goes nothing.' I thought to myself.
I open up the letter and start reading the words on the page. Then they start getting harder to read. Then I realize that I am crying. Ashley finally looks at me when she realizes that I should have read the letter by now. She sees me crying. "Baby, what does it say?" She said it with a quiver in her voice, letting me know that she was ready for the worst.
I look at her and then down at the letter that I hold in my hands. And I start to read.
"Ashley Davies, On behalf of the staff of The University of Georgia, we would like to announce your acceptance for the Fall Term 2009."
Please Review. Let me know if I should go through with this story. I actually am from Atlanta. I know that UGA is in Athens. But this is my story and I might actually set it in Atlanta. I am very familiar with Atlanta and could get these girls into some trouble. The more reviews the more I will continue.
