today November 21st 2016 we remember the largest ship ever built the Hmhs Britannic sister ship to the I'll fated rms Titanic and the rms Olympic the Britannic served as a hospital ship and on her sixth mission she departed from Southampton to Lemnos Greece and on the morning of November 21st 1916 an explosion from a torpedo or a mine badly damged the ship and within 55 minutes later Britannic sinks below the Aegean Sea just off the coast of the Greek island of kea 30 people died in the sinking and only 1,100 survived the people who died were on lifeboats when the two lifeboats were lowered without the captain's premission drifted towards the still turning propellers and the propellers smashed into the boats chopping up the boats and it's occupants to peices within minutes the Britannic rolls over on her starboard side funnels collapse and deck machinery fell into the sea the bow sank first when it hits the sea bed and the bow broke off from the rest of the ship and the the stern sank below to the waves among the survivors were viollette Jessop who also survived the Titanic and was a witness the collision of the Olympic with hms hawke The captain of the Britannic was Charles Bartlett today we remember the 100 anniversary of the disaster and we remember those who died and we remember the survivors as well the wreck was found by Jacques Cousteau in 1975 just 59 years after her sinking the wreck is about 400 feet and 122 meters underwater.
