Emlyn sat staring at the grave, it was very late but she had no intention of leaving the final resting place of her mother any time soon. She remembered the headlines; Glinda the Good Dies In Her Sleep, All Oz Mourns the Loss.
Tears started to form in her eyes, Glinda had welcomed Emlyn into the Emerald Palace when the Royal Family had rejected her because her father (the youngest prince) had had an affair, resulting in her. Sure she got to kelp the name Emlyn Tiggular, but honestly she was always Emlyn Upland; Glinda had raised her from the age of two, so she always considered Glinda her mother.
Emlyn rubbed her eyes, trying to rub away sad stories, and replaced them of happy ones; birthdays, Lurlinemass, stories about her mothers days at Shiz, stories about her mothers best friend, Elphie.
The young women was extremely tired, so she closed her eyes and rested her head on the arm of the park bench.
She barely heard the words, "Oh, Lin . . . I'm sorry I couldn't have been there. I've missed you so much."
When Emlyn spoke to her, the figure froze, "Did you know her?"
"A very long time ago, before she ruled."
Emlyn sighed, "She was my mother, in a way. The names Emlyn."
"Elphaba."
"That's a beautiful name," She stood up to try and see who her company was.
Unfortunatly Elphaba took a step away from Emlyn, turning ever so slightly so that all the young woman could see was the blackness of the cloak.
"I'm sorry did a say something?" Emlyn wanted to know more about her mothers pequlier friend.
Elphaba took several steps to leave the graveyard, but pauses speaking once again, "Dis she ever speak of me? Or maybe Elphie?"
"Yeah," Emlyn smiled, so this was Elphie that her mother was so fond of, "All the time. She told me lots about you, but never what happened to you. But every year she cried on the anniversary of the Wicked Witch of the West's death, I just assumed you had benn killed by her sometime but they never knew exactly when."
Elphaba sighed, "To Galinda I was dead. I must be going."
"No wait! Please don't go," Elphaba ignored her and continued away from the young woman.
Elphaba only looked back as she left the graveyard, but Emlyn could swear she saw a flash of green when she did.
Emlyn looked back at the grave, to see that Miss Elphaba had left something; a pink flower hair clip and a scrap of paper, on which was written 'pink always did go good with green. i meant what i said, you were my only friend, you changed me. i'll miss you Galinda, i hope you haven't missed me. love always, xElphie'
Emlyn looked to the words Glinda had asked written on her grave. She smiled and then rose and left the grave yard.
Glinda the Good
Died age 72 years, after faithfully ruling Oz for 50.
Born shallow, but changed by Elphie.
Glinda would always be remembered in history books, but Elphaba became the legend of Emlyn Tiggular's family.
