This is how I see the events between 02 and Tri happening for Matt and Sora since we're not sure what is going on with that situation, though it may be implied that they broke up. Just my opinion. Hope you guys all enjoy it anyway.
"So this is how it ends, huh?"
Sora could feel the hurt in Matt's voice after she spoke what was on her mind. She felt bad about having to break it to him like this but it was the right thing to do.
After almost a year together, she decided that it was best if they probably stayed as friends. Matt spent most of his time with the band and would blow off some dates due to either a gig or last minute practice. It got so bad to the point that she almost expected something to happen that would cancel a date.
"Yeah. I think that this is over," she said, nodding hesitantly. "I don't think all the king's horses and all the king's men can put this back together again. I think we've gone just about as far as we can go."
Matt bit his bottom lip as he took this in. It was all so sudden but felt like a long time coming. He and Sora had fun early on: always kissing, hugging, other stuff that couples did. Then once the honeymoon period wore off, there was nothing. His focus on his music intensified along with the other temptations that came along with rock star status. He would be lying if he said he didn't indulge once in a while when a really cute girl would come up to him after a show but that didn't change the fact he loved Sora.
His silence scared her.
"Matt, say something," she begged. "Please."
"If that's the way you feel," he finally said. "Then I'm not gonna stop you."
"It's the way we both feel and you know it. I can see it in your eyes."
He nodded slightly, knowing in his heart that she was right. It hurt to admit it but it was the correct answer.
"So where do we go from here?" He asked.
Letting loose a sigh, Sora gave her response.
"I guess we just go back to being friends," she said. "I promise you this, though: our breaking up is not going to tear the group apart. We're going to carry on like normal and be there for each other like we always have. I'm not going to quit and neither are you. End of story."
"Yeah," he nodded. "Yeah, you're right. We had a good run but it was going to run out eventually. I just want you to know that I had fun with you, Sora. You're a great friend to me and you always will be."
"Same here," she smiled, returning the gesture.
With one movement, the two embraced as boyfriend and girlfriend for the last time. Matt ran his hand through her long auburn locks, one of his favorite things to do, with a sense of loss. By the time they broke apart, they both were doing everything possible to keep their emotions in check.
"Well, see ya."
"See ya."
Anyways, that's how I see it going down. My head canon is that their first scene together in Reunion was Matt trying to get her back by having her come to his concert so they could talk.
