I'm a fanfic author of course, Yuu Yuu Hakusho based though I do other things too, but I haven't explained even to my friends how I first got involved in this field so here goes.
(This was originally written for my British Literature class as a character sketch, but I decided it was as good a representation as I could get of the first meeting so I'm sharing it. Hope you like.-)
I had watched his matches for a while before my first attempt to meet him. The whole team actually, they were all together when I arrived. Two were school punks, when they attended, and one very foreign. I was about the same age as the two punks, we all15 at the time, and only a year younger than the guy I had gone to meet. I don't know the last, the foreign kid's age.
From his school, I knew the name of the one I had not yet discovered I'd fallen for. Shuuuichi was his name, though his friends called him different. I suppose they deserve to, they did all compete together.
The semi-finals had ended, as had the fight two of four matches in the final round, and they were all sitting outside the arena, talking amongst themselves. The girlfriend to each punk may have been there too, along with a few other girls related to the guys in one way or another. That was their unofficial "cheerleading section."
Though I approached slowly I was noticed quite soon and after a simple greeting from their leader, he was one of the two punks and top of that category in his school, everyone turned to look at me. I opened my mouth to say something but the words wouldn't come. I closed it again quickly before turning and running off very embarrassed. So much so I was almost in tears.
Later, I had ended up inside the arena where the finals were taking place and was sitting alone in the bleachers looking down at the ring. There was a sound behind me and I looked up to the entrance to find him there, looking down towards me.
"So you've been hiding here," he asked before starting down the stairs. His movements were graceful but I already knew that from watching his fights. He always seemed to flow seamlessly from technique to technique. That, and his amazing strategically procedures (what else would have been expected from top student though?), left no reason to question why his opponents all went down so easily.
I gave no answer, overwhelmed in the moment, and he said nothing more until he sat down beside me on the bench. His emerald eyes were even more amazing that close up. "We worried when you ran off like that."
I still said nothing so he began an introduction, to which I had to reply. We then spoke for some time on other subjects. I mentioned having watched the matches and being worried on his team's chances of winning (they had lost one point already and the opponents now were the strongest by far) and he smiled and assured me they would do fine. Somehow that smile fit with his gorgeous eyes between his hair, a vibrant red and absolutely flowing, making his appearance even greater yet than his intelligence.
The day, and the light with it, grew old before he offered to introduce me to his friends. The invitation was accepted, though our time alone had to be cut short, and we stood to leave together.
It was a lovely meeting with the guy who would become my boyfriend and love.
