The Water's Epiphany

"Katara, you do have a choice. Forgiveness."

Sitting near the docks between forgiveness and revenge was something Katara had considered the ultimate change. There were infinite reasons beyond it. Only some are able to comprehend. Others are for the physical world's experience. Eventually, they would all mingle together to question. There rises the uncertainty; it takes eternities just to settle at any given conclusion.

Katara, however, saw change at a different perspective. She always loved it, considering it was the attribute of her element. She even got past the fear of her bloodbending abilities. She would make it through this, too… right?

Monster…that's what it was… She feared that she would become a monster.

As the waves crashed onto the neighboring rocks below the deck, she traced the air with her ocean hues. Images flashed in her mind. She was certainly not feeling like herself right now. If it wasn't for the avatar's enlightening words, the world would have seen her as the slayer of Yon Rah rather than 'the compassionate waterbender' she was entitled to be.

She could have been the face of her own eternal heartbreak. But regarding this particular change, she never felt the need to become one with the spirit of water and to let herself flow along with its emotional current. She was neither the calm ocean nor the angry sea. She was the water…merciful at most times, but also unforgivable in the depths of betrayal.

It was just her nature.

"Forgiveness is the first step you have to take to begin healing."

Her face softened. She pictured the moments when Aang was caught in the same situation. Her hands shook as she recalled the memory of his fall. Her legs swayed to the rhythm of the tides, feeling the moon's graceful push and pull. She sighed gently, closing her eyes as the sea gave way to the calm. Not the calm before the storm….just the calm… Maybe this was the time to let go.

A twinkle tickled her icy hues at the thought of a new beginning. New eras, new ages, newer destinies. Sooner or later, she would look back at this journey and merely laugh. And she wouldn't regret it.

She suddenly heard Aang's worried footsteps. She heard the words she waited to hear for so long. And for once in a very long while, she let herself smile.

"I'm proud of you."
