Prologue

Stardate 64301.4

It was night on Romulus and one of the moons was lighting the sky. Which one, he didn't know. For five years he was living there officially but he was never able to distinguish which moon was up there in the sky.

Living in an apartment, he was being watched by those who despised him or at least, distrust him: In that matter, Romulans could act almost as paranoid as they could in spite of how many good deeds or diplomacy he had taken.

A Vulcan spice tea was his treat: a little souvenir from the far home. -"Incoming transmission." – The computer voice interrupted his thoughts. He walked towards the computer screen: he was expecting that call. A stranger had called him previously, guaranteeing a mass star explosion, unlikely anything before would occur within short time.

The man sent his data to him, allegedly proving what he was saying: at first, it seemed like the man was a fool, a prophetic fool like any other but he, as Vulcan, had the scientific curiosity to see it, like any other Vulcan would do. What he saw, blew his mind.

"Hello friend." – He saluted with the usual Vulcan gesture.

"Is this channel secure?"

He pressed the necessary button. - "It is now."

"Ambassador Spock, did you analyse the results of the study I've sent you?" - The man was direct: Spock felt the man's fearful and yet expectant voice. After all, he was expecting Spock's answer.

"Logic dictates I should have verify every single portion of data of your study. The Hobus system is one of oldest in the galaxy. Its star is dying and soon…

"It's going to explode isn't it?"

Spock nodded. - "Sadly yes, I'm afraid you are right. It threatens the entire galaxy: if it wasn't so threatening, it would provide a case of study for a lifetime. Do you have any sort of time expectation when it will occur?"

"Days, weeks… I've been monitoring the system and each cycle, it is becoming more and more instable.

"What about your people?" – Spock asked.

The man took a deep breath. - "My civilization is oblivious to the upcoming tragedy and I've being out casted, ostracized by the scientific community. I have been prohibited to talk this to anyone: the reason they have stated was the fact I would induce mass panic. Therefore, I was reluctant to give personal information about me. I was fearful I was being spied."

"If there is a way I can help you..."

"I seek refuge for me and my family."

"May I know your name?"

"Yes, I'm Jor-El, of the house of El, Krypton."

To be continued…
