While Lucien was busy rearranging the study to make room for all their clutter, Jean was sitting in the kitchen drinking her tea reading a letter. She had not noticed it before, because it had fell behind the borough. It was a letter addressed to her with the all familiar handwriting of Dr. Blake Sr.
As she opened it up and began to read a single tear ran down her cheek.
My dearest Jean,
I hope you know what a great help you have been to me. I know I don't have long now but I have sent for my son. We do not get along as you well know, but it's not all his fault. See I believed sending him away would protect him from all the pain, but in retrospection I may have done more harm than good. Anyway I need you to do me one last favor. Please don't give up on him. He always had been gentle and kind as a boy, and I hope some of that still remains. Please keep an eye out for him and make sure he knows he's welcome here. He may not stay, but I know you will do your best.
With deepest appreciation,
Dr. Thomas Blake
The smile grew on her face as she finished the letter. If only Thomas could see the man Lucien had become. He would be so proud. Knowing now that she loved Lucien with every fiber that she has for being such a kind and caring man. Thomas may had been delighted to see his housekeeper had indeed looked after his son even though it hadn't been easy at times. But he would have been completely surprised that they were about to be man and wife. All those years ago no one would have imagined this for them both. He would stay and make a go and she would stand beside him and do the same.
As she placed the letter back into the envelope she couldn't do anything but smile. She placed it in her apron pocket, and returned to help finish their now bedroom.
