A view from Kurama after he lost Hiei his best friend:

I discovered today,

That there is always a way to hide a depression,

From myself and others,

I have to put on a mask from the world,

I have to hide,

Youko even cries,

When inside I cry,

My mask only sighs,

After losing my greatest friend,

My soul cries,

To the brink of destruction,

Then I pause for a moment,

And asking myself how this misery started,

Then I am shocked to remember,

It was a stupid mission,

All for Koenma,

That is what makes me tremble,

Hiei gave his life,

To protect our lives,

Then I see,

That losing a friend,

Could be the end,

When I was right on the brink,

About to commit suicide,

Is that what Hiei really wanted?
