A/N: Just a quick drabble. Partly to see for myself if I really can get inside Anais Watterson's head, partly because I really wanna try writing for this series.

Enjoy, I guess :)

First day of eighth grade.

Anais Watterson was a genius, a prodigy. But at the end of the day, she was a six year old.

No, it's not a joke. Her former school's guidance councelor had suggested to her parents that she be enrolled into Elmore Middle School, given her high test results and most of her teachers claiming to see potential in the girl's future.

At first, she was upset. She didn't want to leave her simple, elementary days behind. What will happen to her favorite spot on the playground? Someone might steal it!

And-and what about her friends Mary and Larry? Those two could barely tell a white sheep from a walking pillow, it was all rather concerning. They needed Anais. What will happen to them now?

But after a few months in, Anais began to feel a lot more comfortable within her new 'cage'. She found the physics club - well, they found her - and it's where she's been devoting her time to since then.

As time went on, she slowly began to gain her clubmates' respect and soon enough, the Physics Club needed Anais Watterson to exist. Or at least, to go to their annual field trip to the city. Anais felt contented.

Now, as she faced her first day of eighth grade, Anais felt a bit anxious - just as any other kid would. What if there was another student that was great at Physics? What if another child prodigy came in? Worse, what if there was another cutie-patootie that everyone liked had enrolled in Elmore Middle? Then Anais wouldn't be wanted anymore.

She frowned. She really shouldn't be thinking about these things. Plus, Mom said if you frown for too long, your face will get stuck looking like that - eternal frown, wrinkles on the verge of formng.

Anais cringed. Nicole Watterson was a great woman, but a strict, yet loving, mother. And her words are not to be taken lightly.

After she exited out of the restroom, she stepped aside to let Gumball and Darwin race to get to the sink. Anais rolled her eyes. As usual, those two were only about to brush their teeth when she was all up and ready. The only thing missing was a kiss from Mom, a hug from Dad - and maybe even a few words of supposed 'wisdom' - and she'll be good to go to the bus stop.

Hopping down the stairs, she began to take in the house, well - home, that she's been inhabiting for less than ten years.

Her mother was in the kitchen, washing the dishes while telling her husband, Richard, to push the chairs in and sighing - yes, he will get a chance to get marshmallows at the market today.

Anais turned her head to the hallway connecting all the rooms upstairs. Gumball was muttering about 'impressing Penny with great breath' while Darwin was gurgling mouthwash.

What a family.

Anais smiled peacefully. That's why she's here.

They needed her. They really do.

A/N: Man, I don't know. I think I wrote her a little darker than I was going for. Hmm.. what do you guys think?

Review please? I really want to know if I captured Anais decently, at the very least. Thank you!
