A Girl for the Brain

Brian stood outside of the school building. It was the Monday after his Saturday in detention. He was waiting for his mother and sister to come and pick him up. Brian sighed and began to flip through the latest papers he had receive back from his teachers.

An A+ on his Physics exam.

An A+ on his History exam.

An A+ on his Literature report.

Brian smiled happily. How he loved receiving good grades back from his teachers! That was what he got from being smart - good grades. He was especially proud of his Literature report. That was something he would have to share with the Math Club when they met on Thursday.

Suddenly, someone hit into Brian. He was jolted and almost fell off of the step his was standing on. Luckily, he managed to retain his balance and he pulled himself right back up.

"I'm so sorry!" a voice shrieked. Brian turned around. Behind him was a girl. She was holding a stack of books in her arms and a piece of paper that looked like a course schedule in the other.

"That's alright," Brian responded. He studied the girl for a moment. "Have I seen you around here before? If I did, I can't place you."

"Oh, you wouldn't. I just moved here. I'm new," the girl replied.

"Oh," Brian responded. He paused for a moment before sticking out his arms and saying, "Well...welcome!"

"Thanks," the girl responded.

"I'm Brian," Brian said.

"I'm Jan," Jan replied.

Brian nodded and coughed slightly. "Um...it there's anything I can help you with...just ask."

"Well, I want to know one thing," Jan started off.

"What?" asked Brian.

Jan went slightly red. "You might think I'm a nerd and all, but...do you have a Physics Club?"

Brian's mouth almost dropped open. "You...you want to join the Physics Club?" he asked.

Jan smiled and nodded. "Along with the Math Club and the Latin Club, if you have any of those."

Brian nodded again. "We have all three. Heck, I'm in all three of those clubs!"

"Really? I've never met a guy who was into Math, Latin, and Physics before," Jan commented.

"Well, I've never met a girl who was into Math, Latin, and Physics before," Brian responded.

Jan paused and put her textbooks down. She pulled out a piece of paper and a pen. She wrote down some numbers and handed them to Brian. "Give me a call later and we'll discuss this. My parents are here, and I've got to go."

Brian nodded, looking down at the telephone number. A girl had never given him a telephone number before. "Okay," Brian responded.

Jan smiled and rushed off towards her car.

Brian smiled and pocketed the phone number.

It looks like he had finally gotten a girl after all.

Fin.
