A/N: This is Emmett's questioning of Jasper's abilities before the battle in the clearing with the newborns in Eclipse. This is almost an alternative to Who Won the War? Oh and a giant thanks to Princess Angela Michelle for letting me write this fic using an idea she had. And for that I'm dedicating this story to her.
Emmett stood to one side of the clearing with his back turned on the wolves and his family. "Emmett," Rose said. "Come on. Be reasonable."
The big vampire turned and stuck his tongue out at his wife. "I will not be reasonable." He shouted. "Jasper is from the South correct?" Emmett asked in a sickly sweet tone. Everyone nodded. "So why does he," he jabbed a finger in Jasper's direction, "get to plan our battle strategies? In case you didn't know, the North won the war!" Emmett finished in a childish tone.
Jasper growled and Sam had the common sense to stand between him and the larger vampire. "And in case you didn't know," Jasper began, his voice livid. "I wasn't planning strategies then you twit. I was helping to evacuate the towns."
"Exactly!" Emmett cried in a triumphant voice while jumping up and down. "If you weren't planning strategies then what gives you the authority to do it now?" He asked. Emmett folded his arms across his chest, raised one eyebrow and began to tap his foot on the ground. There was a collective gasp from everything in the clearing.
Jasper's face would be comical if he wasn't so angry. "What gives me the authority?" He whispered in a slightly deranged voice. "What gives me the authority?" Jasper laughed like a maniac for a second before he got confused.
"Uh… It doesn't matter!" The deranged tone was back. "I'm in charge here and what I say goes," he shouted. "So there," Jasper sneered. He poked his tongue out at Emmett who burst out laughing.
"You… You… You can't think of anything can… Can you?" Emmett said between giggles. Jasper stuck his tongue out again.
"I don't need too. I'm the one with the most experience. Unless of course you'd like to feel guilty for the rest of eternity if someone gets hurt," he said matter of factly. Then he realised what he'd said.
"You know," Emmett said, "I no longer mind you planning the strategies brother."
