Laura sighed as she unlocked her door to her apartment. As she walked into her apartment, she stopped when she saw a picture. I picture that reminded her of happier times. Of her and Ross.
She had just finished taking off her makeup and was in sweats and a hoodie. She sat down on her couch just when she heard a knock at the door. She got up to answer it. Her breath caught in her throat as she opened the door and saw who was standing in front of her.
"Ross," she said softly while taking in his figure. He had changed since she had last seen him. He had gotten a lot skinner and he looked like he hadn't slept for days.
"Hi Laur," Ross said as he stepped into the apartment. He took a look around. It was small, but neat and tidy. Just like her.
"What are you doing here?", she asked as she closed the door and walked into her apartment. "I just wanted to talk," Ross said as he sat down.
Laura's throat got tight as she tried to blink back tears. "You can't just do that," she said facing him. "Do what?" "Just come in here like this and expect everything to be okay."
"But it's not okay, I never said it was." "Exactly," Laura said as she finally let a tear fall. "Please don't cry," Ross said as he pulled her into a hug."No Ross," Laura said as she pushed him off, "we tried it and it didn't work out."
"I never understood why we didn't work," Ross whispered looking down.
"Are you serious!?", Laura said looking at him dead in the eye, "I tried to make it work. Even after what happened. Ross for gods sake you got kicked out of bar! I tried to tell you to stop then. I asked you to get help. You were only 18 Ross! Then came the drugs and the girls. I even tried to make that work, but Ross there's only so much I can do! People always think I can solve any problem that life throws at me, but Ross I can't solve this problem for you!", she said as tears streamed down her face like a river.
"But I've changed I promise," Ross said as he followed Laura to the couch.
"Really Ross!? Why don't you go tell that to the girl you made out with at one of your concerts and got drunk with her after wards," Laura said shaking her head in disgust.
"How did you find out about that?", Ross asked as he closed his eyes. "I'm not an idiot Ross. You don't think I see the stuff people put on the internet. I love you Ross, I really do, but as long you don't change I can't be with you," Laura said as she looked at him with pleading eyes.
Ross stared at her for a few seconds before letting himself out. "Maybe we were always meant for goodbye then," he said as he looked at her. "I guess so," she said said as she let a sob escape. She watched as the love of her life walked out the door taking all of her with him. Somehow she knew she would never get it back.
