Look at this, I'm writing a Courage the Cowardly Dog story! It's one of my favorite cartoons from my childhood, a show that I often go back and revisit due to how much it means to me. Now I have read a couple stories in this fandom, but after reading "Sleep Well, My Friend" from GoldGuardian2418, I got a little inspiration to write a little fic in this fandom, so let's see how I do with my first foray into this fandom.
~Mad Jazzy Buds~
The Beaver had his set of bongos in hand, as he adjusts his hat. He could spot the old farmhouse in the distance, as he taps his tail against the ground, a smile forming across his face as he saw the upper window of the house lit, making out the pink dog's shadow at what he can assume is a computer. He sure hoped the brave little dog wasn't too busy, especially since he needed to repay his friend for helping him.
"At least his place isn't ruined from that stupid dam I built." The Beaver said to himself, taking a deep breath as he walks towards the property, and knocked on the door.
A stout elderly woman opened the door, smiling down upon the Beaver. He could tell that she was as goodhearted as a person could be, she could be anyone's grandma and be one heck of an angel to her grandchildren. He introduced himself and said he's a friend of her dog's, with the woman telling him that he's up in the attic and leads him upstairs.
In the attic, Courage's typing on his rude Computer, writing in his journal over how he and a Beaver, whom he never ended up getting his name broke down a dam with their musical talent, saving his home from getting washed away in a newly formed lake as a result of said dam, and how the two of them performed some hot jazz at a club a few nights ago, with the dog smiling as he types how he helped the aspiring jazz artist realize his dreams.
Suddenly, there was a knock at his door. It was Muriel. "Courage, there's a lovely little beaver here wanting to play with you. He's brought over a nice pair of drums too." She informed him.
The Beaver's here to see him! Hopping off the bucket, Courage went to the door and opened it, seeing Muriel with the Beaver right beside her, as the Beaver waved at him and smiled, just as he heard Muriel say she'll get them some tea and cookies ready, heading back downstairs to prepare the goodies.
"What up, dog? I never got to thank you for helping me find myself again with that crazy mad yo-yo playin' you got going on." smiled the Beaver, as the dog led him into the attic. "Plus, it be a little rude that I never told you my name. It's Bucky and it's a pleasure to meet you."
The Beaver's name was Bucky, huh? Guess he got it from those teeth of his. Smiling, Courage reached out and shook the beaver's hand, as Bucky smiled and pats him on his furry back, laughing as he smacks his tail against the wooden floor, making for a surprisingly good beat.
"The pleasure's all mine, Bucky. But I don't look for rewards when doing what's right, I do it since I wanna help others and keep my owners safe, mostly Muriel." replied Courage as he smiled. "Plus, that dam was flooding my home and the whole town."
Courage really was just as noble and selfless as he had heard from the other people of Nowhere, even though he can be a little cowardly at times. However, Bucky wanted things between he and Courage to be more than just a good deed and then back to normal, as he smiled warmly at the pink dog, who looked at him funny.
"You know, I didn't just drop by for a little social visit, I came cuz' I want us to be pals for the long term and you got some crazy mad playin' skills with that yo-yo too." said Bucky, as he smacks his tail against his drum. "I've got a few more nights at the club and I was wanting you to be my partner up there too."
Their little performance at the club was pretty fun, especially getting to hangout with a friend that wasn't his owner, or the likes of Computer, whom at times really annoyed him. He'd never had really any long term friendships before, so perhaps it was time to change that and he trusted Bucky too. And it would make for better playtime outside too when he has a friend to play with.
"I'd like that, Bucky." smiled Courage, reaching out to hug the beaver.
However, to his surprise, Bucky's the one to pull Courage into the hug, nuzzling against the pink dog as he felt Courage's arms wrap around his torso, returning the embrace. The two laughed as they nuzzle against one other, feeling each other's warmth radiating off the other. Courage had to admit it felt rather nice getting to be snuggled up to the beaver, his fur's very warm feeling.
The two friends separate after a minute or two. Courage hears Computer muttering something derogatory, prompting him to shut the rude little machine off. Plus, he didn't want Bucky and Computer to end up beating each other up in his attic.
"If you want, I've got an uncle who works with computers, he ought to able to scrub that monitor's mouth out with some soap?" suggested Bucky, as Courage laughed a little at that. To be honest, that might be what Computer really needs, or get thrown out the window again.
"I did throw him through the window outside when he told a bad joke a while ago. I might take your uncle up on that offer." replied Courage, as the two laughed over that, with Bucky remembering that he brought something for his new doggy friend.
Even if Courage didn't want anything in return for his selfless heroism, Bucky knew his new friend deserved something for everything he does, especially since he's the one who helped him rediscover his love for jazz and plus, destroying the dam was a good way to stick it to his father, whom wanted him in the concrete business.
"Oh yeah, I know you don't expect anything in return, but after flooding your house and burying that concrete junk on you." sighed Bucky, feeling a little guilty on how he first treated the dog. "You deserve something for helping me destroy that stupid dam and stuff."
Courage was about to say it was all water under the bridge, but remained silent as he saw Bucky hand him a finely wrapped little package. Inspecting the gift for a second, Courage began unwrapping the gift, gasping as he saw the contents of the package.
Inside, a shimmering gold and purple bone necklace, with a big pink 'C' in the center of the bone, for Courage's name, it was attached to a long golden chain. Courage slowly removed the necklace from the box and carefully inspected it, finding the object both beautiful and touching at the same time. He was a bone lover, but this wasn't one he was gonna chew on, especially cuz' it'll break his teeth and he wouldn't chew on an expensive gift anyway.
"Bucky, you didn't need to do this for me. This looks like it cost a pretty penny." replied Courage, looking at the necklace more closely. "I'll cherish it always though. Thank you."
"The man who runs the club paid us pretty handsomely for our show, so I figured since we're gonna be pals for the long haul, I ought to get my yo-yo playin' pal a little bling to go with his pink and show my thanks." smiled Bucky, helping Courage get the necklace on. "Looking good on you too!"
Courage blushed a little and laughed, thinking he probably looks like some rapper on TV, though he did appreciate the kind gesture his beaver friend did. Suddenly, he felt Bucky place his sunglasses over his eyes and putting his hat on his head. He then saw Bucky holding his bongos in hand, smirking at the dog, who got the idea.
"What's say we practice our mad playin' before we perform, man?" suggested Bucky, smacking his tail against the bongos, as he got into the groove and got a good beat going.
"Think you can keep up with my yo-yo?" remarked Courage playfully, just as Bucky rolled his eyes and patted him on his back.
Smiling, Courage reaches into his pocket and pulls out his yo-yo, joining his friend in the music. The sound of Courage's playing got Bucky really beating on those bongos hard, as Courage grins while pointing to his buck-toothed friend, who spun around and jumped onto his bongos, smacking one of them with his tail as he and Courage lose themselves to their mad playin'.
Bucky's having himself the time of his life, despite getting off on more hostile terms, he and Courage formed a solid friendship, and it also helped that the pink dog's got some crazy mad talent when it comes to jazz, something he really admires. He smacks his tail against his bongos in tune with Courage's yo-yo playin', both of them smiling at one another as they enjoyed themselves.
"I could get used to this for sure." laughed Courage, pulling the string of his yo-yo.
Courage and Bucky shared a fist bump, with the beaver grabbing Courage for another hug, just as Muriel came in with the tea and snacks.
The end.
And that was my first one-shot into the Courage fandom, please be sure to review and let me know what y'all think! This was based off "A Beaver's Tail", plus I really liked how Courage helped the Beaver realize what he truly wants to do, not to mention it was cute seeing the two of them play at the jazz club at the end. Oh yeah, since the Beaver didn't have a name given, I decided to name him Bucky, a fitting name for a beaver, I say. Anyway, this is BeastlyBat93, signing off!
