A/N: This is my first The Hunger Games fanfiction which is of how Katniss felt when Peeta wasn't there to join her in District 13
"We know that promise is sweet, but it's laced with venom."
Katniss was on her own now.
Even she knew that.
But they promised to save him…to save her salvation…to save HIM.
But they didn't. They left Peeta to suffer the wrath of the quarter quell. The destruction that she caused by firing the arrow that took down the shield surrounding the arena, the one that endangered all their lives.
She thought he would get out.
Haymitch promised that he would save Peeta.
He should of saved him first, but instead he saved her. Saved Katniss so that she could be the districts Mockingjay, the leader of them all and the one to bring down the Capitol.
Katniss didn't know if she could do it without Peeta by her side, how did she let him out of her sight that night in the arena? How did she let herself get separated from him and partnered with Joanna?
Could she really bring down the Capitol and all of Snow's venomous leadership with it?
His leadership full of false promises to his people of the districts, the ones that supply the Capitol but always face their destruction when something goes wrong.
Katniss couldn't do it on her own, she wanted Peeta there with her…no…she didn't want him..
She NEEDED him.
Katniss needed Peeta to tell her that everything was going to be alright, then when she finishes her job as the Mockingjay her role in the games would truly be over. And she could live in peace with her mind and self.
Peeta had promised her always, that he would always be with her. But now there is no always because he left her.
He left Katniss to survive on her own and let himself be captured by the Capitol.
Why didn't Haymitch save them all that night? Was it too much of a short window? Or was it because Finnick, Katniss and Beetee were the ones closest to their escape?
Leaving Joanna and Peeta to suffer alone.
To be by themselves in the Capitol suffering by President Snows words and means of torture.
The worst thing is that they now have Annie too. Finnick's only love and it was all to just get back at her for her actions that sparked the rebellion from the start.
From where her and Peeta went to eat the poisoned berries, to the point where her arrow brought down the arena.
The thing is, Katniss realised, that every thought, every idea, every promise made to her is just laced with venom. No matter how sweet they are there is always a bitter turn awaiting at the end of it.
Now because of every promise ever made to her that was like this, she was on her own.
She needed Peeta back.
She was going to get him back.
