Cal was happy. Happier than he had been in a long time and if truth were be told he had never felt this way before. Love, actual love. For Taylor. He loved so her so much he had found his mother's old engagement ring in Ethan's room in the morning and had full intentions of proposing to her.

At work Cal swaggered out of the staffroom with a beaming smile.

"Someone looks happy." Rita commented from beside Ethan causing him to look up at his brother.

"I dread to think why." Ethan rolled his eyes and Rita laughed a little and left to treat her patient.

"Good morning little brother." Cal beamed as he stood on the opposite side of the desk to Ethan.

"And what's got you in such a good mood at this time of the morning?" Ethan quizzed.

"I have plans tonight." He informed him. "And I have a surprise for Taylor."

"Dare I ask?" Ethan raised an eyebrow.

"No, but I will." Cal spoke criptically.

"What do you mean?" He frowned.

"I am going to ask Taylor to marry me." Cal spoke proudly holding up the box with the ring.

"Cal, that's Mum's ring." Ethan commented.

"No congratulations or anything? Ghee thanks Ethan." Cal rolled his eyes putting the ring back in his pocket.

"I am happy for you Cal but that is our Mum's ring which she left to me." Ethan shook his head. "You took that from my room."

"She was my Mum too Ethan. I deserve it just as much and I am proposing first." Cal told him. "I love her Ethan. I really love her, I want this to be special."

Ethan didn't know what to say. That ring was the only thing valuable that he had of his mother's and seeing Cal with it with the full intention of giving it to Taylor hurt him in a way he couldn't really explain.

He proceeded to just shake his head and walk away toward CDU where he had been placed for the shift with Rita and Lofty.

"Clearly your brother's good mood has not been passed onto you." Rita spoke seeing the young doctor come in looking glum.

Ethan just looked at her and sighed.

"Which can only mean the reason for his good mood is not a good thing from where you're standing…" She added.

"He is planning to propose to a girl he met a few months ago with my Mum's engagement ring that she left to me in her will." Ethan spoke flatly.

"Well tell him no." Rite spoke shocked.

"Ever tried to tell Caleb no? It just doesn't work." Ethan sighed. "I mean I know he loves her and I know he has as much right to that ring as I do but…"

"No he doesn't." Rita interrupted. "You are the one who looked after her while she was ill, it is ring that you got the thing that meant the most to her."

"But it was still his Mum too. The reason she left it to me was because she knows Cal and she knows he could propose to several girls, where as I would most likely just have the one special one." Ethan explained. "I don't know, I haven't even looked at that ring since she died and Cal has just taken it from my room and flashed it in my face."

"That man needs a slap sometimes. Do you want me to talk to him?" She asked.

"It wouldn't make a difference. Besides, he is happy and I don't want to ruin that." Ethan shrugged dismissively.

"He doesn't know how lucky he is." Rita sighed.

Ethan just smiled a little before getting on with his work.
