Hello! It is interesting to know that my first fan fiction is about The Great Gatsby. Oh, and I feel my english teacher deserves some credit. Without you, I wouldn't have done this. Really. So thatnk-you. Without further ado I give you Impartial!
Disclaimer- All characters belong to F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Nick's POV
I was at the beach, sprawled in the sand simply thinking about my slain friend. I sighed.
Jay Gatsby didn't know that he had lost his chance. When the light was green, he continued. however, turning the other way. When the light turned red, he still wanted to pass. Even this made me smile. Ah, that was Gatsby for you.
"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter-- to-morrow we will run faster, stretch our arms further…And one fine morning ---"
It did make sense, I suppose. We were expected to follow the future, pursue it, but somehow be led towards the past. His upcoming decisions led to Daisy. And when the times of yore came, he began running, chasing for the dream.
But he didn't know that the light turned red. Well, in a sense he did. I mean, I saw the look on his face when he had met Daisy's young daughter. She sat there at the tabel. Eager but somehow guilty as he greated her. His expression gave it all It was the true expression of self inflicted doubt. I wonder what it felt like to be him; it must have burned his heart.
I closed my eyes trying to empty my thoughts. The wind blew gently. As it breezed through my hair I could hear it, hushing, whispering.
"Old sport…" With that they flickered open, and I was eying the boats in front of me, whom were fighting weakly against the currents.
I shook my head; it was the fault of no one. Neither Gatsby nor Daisy.
The light had become red and both dared to cross.
