Today was the day. The day a certain physicist named Sheldon Cooper had been dreading in a way for a very long time.

Today was the wedding of his best friend & former roommate Leonard Hofstadter & their former neighbor Penny Hawthorne.

Sheldon wasn't looking forward to it because he knew that once Leonard & Penny were married, they wouldn't be hanging out together like they used to. Sure, he would see Leonard at work, but that would be it.

That just made Sheldon feel miserable, & only one person noticed it.

His longtime girlfriend Amy Farrah Fowler.

Sure, she was happy for her best friend Penny, but she couldn't help feeling sorry for Sheldon. She knew that he loved Leonard like a brother, but the fact that Leonard was not really going to be a part of Sheldon's life anymore upset Amy a lot.

So on the day of the wedding, Sheldon, who was the best man, and Amy, who was the maid of honor, decided to sit down & have a talk.

"Are you OK about this, Sheldon?" asked Amy. "Do you want an honest answer, Amy, or some babbling nonsense?" asked Sheldon sadly. "An honest answer," said Amy. Sheldon then took a deep breath & gave her what she wanted.

"No. I'm not OK about this. I mean, I am genuinely happy for Leonard & Penny. They have been through a lot together, & they deserve this moment even if it does seem rather self-serving in my opinion. I just feel that I'm losing my best friend, someone who has been a brother to me for years. I know Leonard has wanted to kick my ass on occasion for being a rather obnoxious bastard, but he knows that I can't help being who I am. Now he's going off to start a new life with someone that I love like a sister, & to put it in Penny-style terms, it sucks."

Amy looked at Sheldon with sad eyes. She could feel his pain. Knowing that she probably wouldn't be able to see her own best friend as much she used to was going to be hard, but unlike Sheldon, Amy had accepted that fact.

"Well, all we can do is try & be supportive," said Amy. "I know. It's just hard for me," said Sheldon. Amy just nodded. She then did something unexpected.

She leaned in & kissed Sheldon gently on the lips. He looked at her in surprise.

"Why did you do that, Amy?" asked Sheldon. "Because I felt you needed it," said Amy. He then responded by kissing her.

The kiss then turned passionate, & the next thing Sheldon & Amy knew, they were making out.

The makeout session went for about 10 minutes. As soon as they let go of each other, they looked deeply into each other's eyes.

"Fascinating," said Sheldon with a wicked grin. "I agree," said Amy with a grin of her own. She then heard her phone, which she had placed on the coffee table, vibrate. She checked out what the message could be.

"The limo's here. Are you ready?" asked Amy as she smoothed out her pink maid of honor dress & straightened out her tiara. "Ready as I'll ever be," said Sheldon, who smoothed out his dark blue jacket & tie.

As they walked out of the apartment hand in hand, Sheldon & Amy realized that as long as they had each other, they could handle anything including seeing their best friends get married. It was all they could do.

As it turned out, Leonard & Penny's wedding was amazing. The food was catered by the Cheesecake Factory. The cake was beautiful to look at, and Sheldon gave a heartfelt best man speech that earned him a hug from Leonard. Penny even gave Sheldon a kiss on the cheek. Amy looked on with love & joy as she watched the man she loved have his own little moment.

Everything was right in the world. In a way that is.
