~One Shot~
The Elementary School Principal finally gave up and let the natural flow of life consume his body. Finally, Mikan was set free. Joy. Nothing but joy covered everybody's heart. Their friend was found and perhaps peace in the academy would last for quite a while.
Mikan, naïve and innocent, experienced emotional challenges. She survived the loneliness knowing her friends were just there waiting for her. She survived knowing someone—Natsume— was looking and waiting for her. An unexplainable happiness enveloped her heart when finally she could spend her time with him and with a little time he got left.
Natsume, strong and delicate, took the role of an adult for the sake of family and friends. He pushed his body and his will to the limit knowing that someone—Mikan—wanted to be with him until the very end.
The sun is up. The bright sun shines that marks a peaceful and solemn time together. The pink blossoms of the tree hide them from the sunlight. Yet the sunlight seems to spark through. He closes one of his eyes.
"Bright.."
The head of the girl slightly moved forward shading his face from the sunlight. She's smiling as she moves the strand of hairs from his eyes with gentle fingers. He smiles back.
"I'm enjoying this." The boy said.
"You really prefer my lap than the pillow I brought." The girl giggles
The wind blows and to his ear, it sounds like a song. The girl lets her hair down. She let it flow together with the pale pink cherry blossoms. She remembers that he likes it that way. She put her hand to prevent her hair from covering her face.
"Beautiful.. " He whispers. He could hardly see but he is sure that she's beautiful.
The girl slowly bends down. He feels her breath slowly moving from his forehead.. to his eyes.. to his nose. She reaches for his lips.
"Sweet. Her lips tastes so sweet." He says to himself.
Their lives are filled with memories they want to forget. At the same time, their lives are filled with memories they want to remember forever.
His hands slowly crawls reaching for her hand placed on his chest. He takes her hand and slowly brings it closer to his face. She let go of his lips. Their eyes meet.
"I love you.." She whispers.
He hears almost nothing but he knows. He moves her hand from his face to his lips. He kisses her soft hand so gently.
"I love you.." He whispers.
The wind blows again. It's a call.
"..I'm sleepy." He says.
The girl is silent.
He focuses on her face as his eyes slowly close. Remembering every curve and feature of the girl who saved him from everything.
Petals fall .. finally sealing his eyes.
A drop of tear falls on his cheek.
The wind blows. The song is done.
Life ends one day. It's a natural law. It's a matter of who goes first. We all know. Yet, even if we prepare ourselves, it hurts.
