Escape Route
She knew she wanted him. From the first time they'd spoken properly she knew she wanted him. At the minute her emotions were all over the place.
When they first met there was nothing, no spark, nothing. Then something had changed, they had been introduced as if totally new people by mutual friends. 30 seconds had changed everything.
She felt she could tell him everything, this hadn't happened instantly but once the doors were open they were hard to close. He held all her insecurities, fears, hopes he carried her depression on top of his own load.
-----
He wasn't an open book either; he'd had his problems. Meaningless affairs were the tip of the ice-burg. He never tried to hurt anyone but these random relationships weren't what he was looking for and he knew this when he got into them, but they were an easy way, an escape route.
He'd been stabbed and lost a close work colleague in the process. He'd become addicted to narcotics. He needed more than someone's hand to hold in a relationship, he needed more than empty sex; he needed something else, something new.
It would be easy to take the next rich girl his parents introduced him to - but this was John Truman Carter III and he never did do things the easy way.
-----
He knew a lot about her but he didn't know everything. He didn't know about her abortion, as much as he'd hate to admit it, he couldn't read her mind. But at least John tried to see past the gates. Luka looked at what was on the surface - her immediate reactions.
At first it had been nice to have someone pay this much attention her, she was flattered and thought she saw something beyond friendship but then Luka came along. That changed everything, their friendship simply crashed and burned.
When her and Luka finally broke up it was like old times, they could sit and talk, but as right as it seemed something in the back of her mind was unsure, sure they still talked but the closeness wasn't quite there, it was like having a giant barrier between them, if she had the correct code she could get past but for the moment it looked like she couldn't.
----- That was kind of heavy but it's only going to be a 2 or maybe 3 chapter fic. This isn't usually how I write but I thought I'd give it a try. Please review - Hna
