Prologue: Disappearance
"Kuroikiba!" an orange-haired teen yelled, slashing a jet black sword—his Zanpakuto—downwards, watching a spike of black and crimson energy speed at his enemy, an auburn-haired man with a black and white mask on his face.
The masked man's image wavered, as if caught in static, and then reappeared a dozen or so meters to the left of the attack. However, he was too slow to completely avoid any damage. The mask on his face cracked down the center, thin lines branching off from the main fracture, and the whole mask shattered and fell of his face, revealing calculating brown eyes.
The mask wasn't the only thing damaged, though. The teen's enemy had dodged a millisecond too late, and as a result, had his left arm entirely burned off.
"Damn you!" the once calm man cursed. He quickly shoved his Zanpakuto into his obi and raked his right hand across his face. Slowly, flecks of white gathered and transformed into the black and white mask that was on his face before.
Mask restored, the brown-eyed man grabbed his Zanpakuto, just as the teen shouted "Getsuga Tenshou!" and the teen's signature attack of a black and crimson crescent wave of energy slammed into the man's torso.
When the dust and excess energy dispersed, the auburn-haired man was barely standing, with his sword stabbed in the air, in a horrible parody of the teen's condition when the two enemies first met.
The man was bent forward slightly, leaning heavily on his Zanpakuto. There was a giant slash across his abdomen that was spraying blood into the air, with his spine the only thing keeping the two parts of his body attached.
"D-Damn you...!" the man choked out, coughing blood as he did so. "I was supposed to by GOD!" he screamed. Abruptly, the auburn-haired man choked mid-scream, and slumped over, body starting to dissolve into basic reishi particles.
The teen watched his enemy fall out of the sky they were battling in, toward a stretch of forest. Suddenly, a dark glint caught his eye, and reflexively dove for the shine. He ducked into the cloud of reishi, and closed his hand around the glittering object, then realized what it was and immediately tried to drop it; but to no avail.
The artifact that was clenched in the teens' hand glowed a dark blue, and then sucked his remaining reiatsu away. The orb pulsed once, then everything exploded in a brilliant white, and Kurosaki Ichigo, orange-haired killer of Aizen Sousuke, hero of the Winter War, and the hougyoku disappeared from this world.
