She thought she would never find her way again, but remembered she had had a life before him and had been happy. She was a demon slayer, for God's sake. She held a job most women in her time wouldn't have the constitution for. She was stronger in ways those women couldn't fathom; yet she was still a woman. Because of that she had let this one man uproot her.
Koharu had been the last straw. Sango just couldn't stand to see Miroku hold the girl in such an intimate way when all he did was grope her. She couldn't stand to hear him ask one more girl to bear his children. She couldn't stand to think that, for a monk, he had no respect for himself or for women. She couldn't stand the ache in her heart at never knowing just how many there had been before her, and being afraid to ask. Or discovering how many more there would be after her.
She loved him, and wanted to give him children, but with Miroku she could never be sure he was faithful. Sango would never know how many children he already had, and the thought of another woman already having bore him a son ripped her apart inside.
So, with a heavy heart she broke their engagement. She did it for herself and for him to save them from years of heartache and misery. She knew she would live to resent the way he acted, and wasn't foolish enough to think his lechery would change just because they were married. She knew it would be horrible if someone showed up on their doorstep claiming to be his child. She didn't want to spend her life abusing her husband because he couldn't act right.
Now, for the first time since they had met, she didn't feel like a fool.
