Greatest Sensation
It was a good thing morning started in bed, because when they were in bed, they were together, and when they were together, it was good – at least for the most part.
Normally it started with Gregory House's alarm. It was always that Sinatra CD or the jazz music that they had been playing the night before, and House would never fail to sleep right through it the wake up call. Lisa Cuddy would stretch over his chest to "turn the damn thing off" as she so gracefully put it.
It wasn't until House opened his eyes that he realized where he was. He was in bed with Cuddy. He was shirtless and lying next to Lisa Cuddy. And every morning it was like the realization was hitting him for the first time. Every day it was made new, and it was the greatest sensation.
He would stretch and grin, rubbing his leg with his right hand and his left hand reaching over to touch her – to get closer to her – to be connected to her.
Some shrinks say that we as people are defined and shaped by the biggest moments in our lives. So when humans react to life occurrences, those reactions are what make people who they are on the inside and out. House had just happened to be cursed with many of those "life moments." He got into medical school, he had a blood clot, he lost a chunk of leg and walked with a cane, he took pills, he hallucinated, he got off the pills, and he lost a patient.
He didn't believe in love amnesia. His leg still hurt. He was still an ass sometimes. He remembered how good the Vicodin was, but all of the sudden that wasn't what his life was about. His life was about a relationship with a beautiful girl and her daughter, and every morning before he went to work, he woke up to that thought.
