"Sensei?"

Minato turned to look at the young jounin sitting silently beside him in the moonlight. This had become their own ritual, even before Rin and Obito came along. Minato flinched, remembering the brave young Uchiha. May he rest in peace, the Yellow Flash thought.

"Yes, Kashi?" mismatched eyes sparkled as he watched the starry night sky.

"Do you think I'll ever find someone? Like… you know…"

"A lover?" Minato smiled at the blush spreading across the boy's handsome features. "Perhaps." Minato chuckled.

"But I thought Shinobi aren't supposed to show their emotions. It's dangerous?" It was a question not a statement. Minato pulled his student into his lap, wrapping his long arms around the younger's smaller frame. "Well, I think if you find someone you really love, it makes you stronger. The urge to come home to that person, to protect them and never hurt them. I think it makes you stronger. Kashi, a Shinobi is what you are, not who you are."

Kakashi nodded, satisfied with Minato's answer.

"If you ever need anything, I'm here."

"W-what if something happens to you?" The boy asked, truly afraid at the thought of losing a man who was so much like a real father to him.

"I'm always here." Minato said, placing a hand over the boy's heart and pulling him closer to lightly kiss his forehead.

Kakashi Hatake awoke with a start, sitting straight up in his bed. Beside him, his husband, Iruka, stirred.

"Kashi? What is it?" Iruka's voice was slurred with drowsiness as he rubbed the jounin's back.

Kakashi laid back down, wrapping his arms around the younger man and smiling as the chuunin snuggled closer.

"Nothing, love. Sleep."

You were right, Minato-sensei. It makes me stronger…
