'Fate has odd ways of working. The littlest thing now, one simple action, could be leading to the best thing that's ever happened.' Near set the book down, sighing at the lack of intelligence most of the books showed. There never seemed to be anything he would actually want to read, something that left him unfullfilled. He figured he should just stick to case files and his legos.

"Uhm, excuse me, but I think you're in the wrong section, little boy." Near turned and glared at the imbecile that dared insult him...His name tag stated that he was "Matsuda". Near easily managed to figure out that the man was an immature screwup, one that got yelled at on a daily basis.

"I'm nineteen." With that, he left the man spluttering being laughed at by a couple of off-duty cops. He was vaguely intrested, but didn't care to interact until he saw a classmate of his by one of the men who was shaking his head. 'Must be Raito's father.' Said boy looked up and smiled, walking over to him quickly.

"Sorry about that, Near. Matsuda is a complete idiot. We're setting up a sting, so we needed the least suspicious person." There was that easy friendly manner; it annoyed the white haired boy to no end. "Listen, I know we don't exactly interact on a daily basis, but would you like to hang out?" It took a moment of thought, but he nodded and silently strode off torward his building, with Raito trailing behind, akwardly attempting to intiate conversation and failing miserably. Near noted that the brunette was getting frustrated and oddly that pleased him. He lead him to his living space and opened the door, revealing millions of legos and puppets, as well as several dozen case files. "Odd, but it definitely suits you." He strode over to the sofa and quickly sunk into it, while Near took his place on the floor, playing with legos.

"There's a 90% chance that you have an alternate motive for this." This only made his companion laugh, nodding comfirmation simultaneously. "I suppose you think I already know, but you're wrong." At this the other smirked and slid to the floor.

"Misa's an idiot, someone I can't rely on. She's also female, which doesn't help her much, and she follows me constantly. She's an annoyance. I'd perfer much more intelligent company, more like you. It helps that..." He trailed off, an uncertain gleam in his eye as he shifted into Near's personal space.

"So Matt was right...You think I'm cute. Now if you will please get out of my personal space, I'd highly appre-" Near was caught offguard by a pair of lips, effectively silencing him. It was a strange sensation for him, but pleasant enough to where he wished to continue. He applied slight pressure, never having done this, and a little unsure as of what to do. Furthermore Raito was warm, something that distracted him as someone had again turned down the heat too low. Luckily, he was moved onto his lap, a hand tangling in his hair. Near pulled back, leaning into the touch,a noise similar to purring emitting from him. Raito chuckled, pleased by the move.

"So, I'll take you out to dinner later." Near agreed with a kiss, sealing the deal. Later, when he was laying in bed cuddled up to a warm mass, he couldn't help but think back to the bookstore. Apparently, that book was right. One simple action such as setting a book down could lead to this.

A/N: This was a request from Helena Beaumanoir. The request was for A Raito/Near romance, perferably noy fluff. I hope this fits the requirements and I'm sorry about the shortness. I hope it was enjoyable, and I have to say I was really tempted to write about a white kitten that scratched Near, but luckily this turned out unfluffy. I'm still taking requests for known fandoms.
