He was going to die.
It wasn't a rash decision. He had actually given it a lot of thought. This certainly wasn't the first time either. He had been 'killed' by the hands of Arima and had been reborn as Haise Sasaki. Later, Haise too had been replaced by the Black Reaper.
Who he was right now, he had no idea. But it didn't matter.
It's all going to end now.
He was going to go done in style, like manager Yoshimura. And by doing so, he's going to ensure Hinami at least gets out of here alive
And no one was going to stop him. Not Arima, not Furuta and not Akira and the Quinx. The Quinx. He was practically abandoning them. He hoped Urie and the others will find and save Mutsuki before it's too late. He regretted not being able to bid farewell to his old family, but it had to be done.
They're all better off without him anyway
A Reaper's end by the hands of another Reaper. It was fitting.
He could hear a familiar voice in his head telling him what nonsense that was, telling him that he was selfish, that what he was doing was not for Hinami or for anyone else, but for himself. He smiled bitterly at the thought. Nothing has changed since then. He was still the same. People like him and his mother were destined to die like this, for their own satisfaction. He supposed if that person was here, they would knock his teeth out. Thinking about her made him long to see her, just one last time. It's been ages since he last visited that cafe.
Well, either the fates were being incredibly kind, or incredibly cruel, or both
For there she was, with her brother and Yomo, fighting against the man who he had once considered his father (he still does).
Of course, he wasn't the only one who cared for Hinami. Nonetheless, he was surprised to see them here. He quickly prevents Arima from hurting Yomo, and tells Ayato to take them away to safety.
"Kaneki"
He never thought he'll hear his name called out by that voice again. But she was here, smiling that smile of hers, which was both beautiful and sad.
"I'll see you later, ok?"
And then she turns to leave.
"You're a cruel one,Touka."
After this, he was going to die. He smiles bitterly at her words. Oh the irony, to think he will be at the receiving end of the words he told her years ago. It wasn't fair.
(Though a part of him felt like he deserved it, for leaving her alone for so long when he told her he wouldn't)
He forced all thoughts of her out of his mind as he faced Arima. He hoped Ayato manages to get them all, including himself, out of Cochlea safely. This was all he could do for them, buying them time.
Arima's expression was blank and he hadn't said a word. Was he disappointed? Or was he expecting this?
Either way, they both knew this was it.
This was the end.
AUTHOR'S NOTE
So...this is it.
I'm sorry if it's unoriginal or bad, I hope I'll do better next time.
This is my first work so I have no idea how things are done
I'm also sorry I didn't mention Hide, but since he appears (in Ken's mind) during the fight, I thought it was unnecessary
Criticism of any form is accepted
