Disclaimer: Tamora Pirce owns it. Except the plot my insanely plottative (I don't care if that's not a word) came up with.

The plot, by the way, was inspired when I re-read the Lioness series, and stumbled across the following lines-

"She grinned wolfishly. He (the Lord Provost)

grinned back. Buri was interested to

notice more than a slight resemblance

between them at that moment."

-Lioness Rampant, page 294, American Version

Right. On too the story.

"What?"

"I'm afraid it's rather indisputable. The letters were found by his son when he sorted through his things after his death last August."

"No wonder Lord Alan didn't like me."

"Indeed," Myles told the redhead with a chuckle.

"Are they entirely certain? This is something I would rather not mistake."

"Dead certain. Would you like to read the letter for yourself?"

"Yes, as a matter-of-fact."

Myles handed her the letter, face unreadable.

Dearest Dusan,

I'm afraid I have some rather… unsettling news. I am with child, and you are undoubtedly the father. We must marry right away, for all I know a marriage between a commoner such as yourself and a noble from the book of gold would cause a great scandal. I cannot write more, I'm afraid. I believe my father suspects our romance, and he is watching me as I write. No doubt he will try to have the letter brought to him so that he might read it, which must not happen.

All my love,

Alianne of Queensbroke.

Alianne,

I cannot, and will not, marry you. I have spent my entire life hating the noble class, and though I was foolish enough to fall in love with one I will not ever join their ranks.

-Dusan

Alanna stared in amazement.

"So… she married my fa- the man I thought was my father, and gave birth to twins. I suppose I'm even more of a scandal than anyone thought," she mused.

Myles chucked even more grimly.

"I suppose so. Are you going to tell anyone?"

"That his Lord Provost, who died only a week back, was my father, and my brother and I were born out of wedlock! I think not!"

"Good. I'd hate for you to be more of a scandal than you've already managed to become."

She laughed only slightly, before turning and leaving the room- and the past she'd just only learned she had- behind.

Riiiiight. It was short, and extremely odd. If anyone wants to develop this plot into a full-blown story, they're welcome too. I just thought I'd put it out…

And, please, no flames on this one. It was odd, I know, but that's ok. Odd is good.
