Very Supportive

Jackie smiled tiredly at Nora who was contently drinking her bottle.

It was around eight in the morning and it had been a very long night for Jackie. Nora, who normally slept through the night and rarely ever cried had screamed nearly all night long. The sweet infant had gotten her shots the previous day and she apparently handles needles like her mother because she had been cranky ever since she came back from the doctor's appointment.

Luckily for Jackie it was Saturday so she didn't have to work.

"Mommy is wore out baby girl." She cooed at the infant.

Jackie's phone buzzed. She managed to hold both Nora and the bottle with one hand so she could check her phone.

You awake? The text message from Nick read.

Yeah, it's been a very long night. She texted back.

Soon her phone started ringing.

"Hello?" Jackie answered her phone.

"Hey, the baby didn't sleep?" Nick asked.

"Nope, she screamed all night long instead, I guess she hates shots as much as I do." Jackie said with a yawn.

"I'm sorry." Nick told her.

"Oh well, sleep is overrated." Jackie quipped.

"I'm on my way home, I'll stop and get you a coffee, what kind do you want?" Nick asked her.

"Thank you Nicky, that would be wonderful. I'll have an iced toasted marshmallow latte with two shots, and nonfat milk please."

"Ok, I'll be home soon." He promised.

About twenty minutes later the door opened.

Nick wandered upstairs and found Jackie rocking the baby back and forth.

"Hi." He whispered as he placed a kiss on her cheek.

"Hi." She smiled back.

"Here, let me take her and you take this and go take a break." He said as he offered her the coffee he had bought her.

"It's ok, I'll keep her, you just got off of work, I'm sure you're tired, just move that little end table over here so I can set the coffee on it." Jackie told him as she nodded towards a little table in the corner of the room.

"I'm good, I'm actually riding on a high, we solved our case and stopped a budding serial killer." He told her.

"That's awesome Nicky, so he didn't have any victims?" She asked.

"One, he broke into a house and savagely killed an elderly woman." Nick said as he flinched.

"Who could do that to an old person? Well anyone for that matter but especially to an elderly person?" Jackie asked.

"An evil man." Nick replied.

Jackie nodded in agreement.

"Here, I'll trade you." Nick offered again as he nodded at the coffee in his hand and the baby in hers.

Jackie gingerly stood up and gently handed Nora over to Nick and then she took her coffee.

"You go and read the paper, enjoy your coffee, and then get some sleep."

"Thank you Nicky." She told him gratefully before leaning over and softly kissing his lips.

He smiled and then sat down in the rocking chair with Nora in his arms.

"Hi there princess, I hear you handle shots like your mommy." He said softly.

Jackie laughed and then left the room.

Jackie carried her coffee downstairs so she could read the paper, she was incredibly grateful she had such a loving and supportive husband!

The End!
