The Taste of Life
by Chronic Guardian
A/N: A response to Twelve Shots of Summer(Week 1). Sooo... maybe genius is a little strong of a term for this one. Maybe just "secretly even capable of thought". The broken wording is purposeful due to the character perspective. Don't worry, my sense of proper English hasn't been entirely lost.
Sweet, sour, bitter, salty, savory; these make my world. Sometime more one, sometime more another. Flavor is life, flavor is knowledge. Sometime, you say all need to say with flavor. But also texture important. And consistency. Is taste that is most important though, is taste that tells a story.
Some place have good taste. Some rich in sweet, crunchy happiness. They make good yummy-yummies there. That because they love. Love is strong taste. Overpowers hate and sadness and evil. Tasties made with love are best tasties. Make you grow big and happy. When catching froggies though, you should never take ones taste like love, even though they best. Froggies in love must live. Must make more froggies. Otherwise, taste of all froggies turn to hate.
Hate is different taste. Taste hollow and bitter. Sometime salty, sometime think it savory, but is always bitter in aftertaste. Kuja probably taste like hate. Probably brittle, burns in tummy; taste like glass. No understand tasties. Understand sweet. That sweet thin, like perfect frosting over cold stone. Hard underneath. Hurt teeth, sink in stomach, no satisfy.
Strange then. Strange how sweet not always good, how bitter not always bad. Understanding good taste more than understanding what taste powerful, or what taste happy. Is understanding what makes life.
Life taste good. Is taste so strong makes air taste like it. When you with good life, is not just tasties filling stomach. Is taste so quiet but so overwhelming, whenever you put it in yummy-yummies is impossible not to know. But taste of life is not taste of things alive; is taste of what make them alive. This is true secret to good food: not what takes, but what gives. True Gourmands live by making food, not taking it. Take to learn first, maybe, but making is best.
Only when create life, do you truly ever taste it.
A/N: And there we are. Thanks for reading! Hopefully we'll get better at this whole "story in a week" thing, but for now it'll do. Confused as to what I'm rambling on about? Go check out the Twelve Shots of Summer forum and get the low-down! Check out the other authors participating, they're all quite good in my humble opinion and are at least equally deserving of your attention.
See you next week!
