Chapter One

Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or any of the characters. They belong to Kishimoto. I only own my storyline.

The brown haired prodigy wrapped his arms around her waist, bringing her closer so their noses were touching. His ivory colored eyes seemed to glow, making her melt inside. She placed her hesitant arms around his neck, as if making sure it was all as real as it seemed. "I love you Tenten." He whispered, leaning in for a kiss, and-

"TENTEN KIMIKO!" A ruler slapped onto her desk, jolting the brunette awake. "Huh?" She blinked her eyes groggily and was awarded with a disapproving stare from her teacher. The light brown pupils of her instructor glared back at her, a look that caused all students and some faculty members to cower in her presence. Luck was certainly on Tenten's side today to be called out on by Konoha High's scariest teacher. As she snapped out of her sleepy state, she was now aware of the many heads and hundreds of eyes in her direction, focusing on her.

"Are you ready to pay attention now?"

"Y-Yes Anko-sensei." Tenten mumbled, flushing tomato red with embarrassment. "Good." The purple haired woman shook her head disapprovingly, picking up her ruler from Tenten's desk and turning back around to face the board. "Open your math books to page 57." She commanded, and the rustle of papers being turned was heard in almost unison. Tenten reluctantly flipped her textbook to the said page, while stealing a sideways peek at the desk that sat two rows back behind her. The subject of her anger sat at his desk in silence. She wondered if he was looking at her too, but dared not to steal a full on glance. Neji Hyuga, you've got me in trouble once again, she raged silently as she snapped a pencil in half. Sitting in front of Neji, Tenten saw Chouji chomping on a bag of chips rather loudly and narrowed her eyes. He was being even more of a disturbance to the class than she was, why didn't Anko-sensei go after him? Life was so unfair.

It had been months since Tenten and Neji last spoke, but a certain brunette boy always seemed to find his way back into Tenten's thought bubbles. Why she still liked him, she had no idea, but a little voice in the back of her mind always urged her not to give up because maybe one day he would change his mind. Until then, all she had to do was wait.

"Daydreaming again?" Came a teasing voice. Tenten sighed, recognizing it as Ino's. She faced the smiling blonde, whose blue eyes sparkled with amusement. "No way how did you know?" She drawled sarcastically, pulling at a loose thread on her sweatshirt.

Ino smirked. "So when are you gonna talk to Neji again?" Tenten huffed.

"He doesn't even know I exist."

"Aww.. I'm sure he does. Maybe he's just shy."

"Whatever."

A discreet cough from Anko pulled the two back to the reality of Precalculus.

"Miss Yamanaka, do you have an answer to #24?"

"Er…"

After class, the two girls met up with Sakura and Hinata to get ready for their next class, which was History. Just moments before the first bell rang, an announcement came over the loudspeaker that there were free cookies in the front hall. All four girls were currently in the bathroom, not wishing to get trampled in the mad stampede for cookies. The hallway was a battleground of chaos everyday, so to get any proper source of oxygen and personal space, they always met in the bathroom during passing time. Hinata was currently reading a book for one of her AP classes, and Sakura was copying off of Tenten's homework, having done the wrong exercises in her workbook the night before.

"Hurry Sakura! The bell's about to ring!" Tenten warned the girl, who was scribbling frantically across the blank sheet of paper. "I'm trying!" Sakura snapped, writing as fast as she could. Tenten peered down at her friend's sheet of paper. Aside from Ino, Sakura was one who did not do well under pressure and crunch time. Her handwriting looked like hieroglyphs instead of actual English.

"Sakura, did you just draw a tornado?"

"What? No! It says 'twenty nine centuries'." Tenten sweat dropped.

"So how are you girls this wonderful Wednesday?" The brunette asked, waiting for her friend to finish. "Ne, it's been a crappy morning." Sakura complained in between scribbles, "My locker got jammed so I was late to Biology and Asuma-sensei made me sit by Lee." She wrinkled her nose in disgust. "But I guess it's better than having to be Naruto's partner. How about you Ten?"

"Got yelled at by Anko." The girl responded flatly as Ino snickered. "All because I was thinking about Neji again."

"Oh that's right." Hinata looked up from her book. "Tenten, you still like him after he rejected you?"

"Well… If you put it that way…" The brunette shuddered, recalling the painful and now cringeworthy memory.

*Flashback*

"N-neji? Do you have a minute?" Tenten asked, running up to the Hyuuga boy. She put her hands on her knees, trying to catch her breath. It was now or never. He looked at her strangely. "Did you follow me all the way home?" She nodded, still panting from the long run. Normally a five block run was a breeze for Tenten, but who knew Neji walked so damn fast? She wheezed. "I have to tell you something important."

"Okay. Let's hear it."

"I…"

"You.." He pressed, waiting for an answer. "I like you, not just as a friend, more than that. For a long time I've had a crush on you Neji. Ever since we were in Gai-sensei's strength and conditioning class freshman year." The brunette blurted out all in one breath. It felt strange spilling all her feelings that she had harbored for the past year towards him, and she couldn't tell if she was feeling relieved or just plain awkward. Sakura had told her to go for it, and the brunette had dumbly taken her advice. Silence hung in the air as Neji stared at her dumbfounded. Tenten's heartbeat quickened.

"I'm sorry Tenten, but I only like you as a friend." He replied as a matter of factly. She just stood there, frozen in shock as he walked away from her, not even turning back.

Harsh.

*End of Flashback*

It was hard enough seeing him in the halls every single day, but the fact that he brushed past her every single time was another reminder of how desperate Tenten sounded that day. She had tried to block it out from her memory ever since, and it was kind of working until today.

"Whatever, my fangirl days are over now." She said to nobody in particular. "I may still like him, but I'm not going to desperately drool over him like before."

I'll win him over somehow.

BRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNGGG

"And there's the bell. Finished just in time." Sakura sighed. "Thanks Tennie." "You owe me one." Tenten joked, lightly slapping her arm.

"Did you girls hear the announcement this morning?" The rosette girl asked as the quartet walked out of the bathroom and made their way down the hall, trying not to lose each other in the crowd.

"No, what is it?" Ino pressed, fixing up her lip-gloss which apparently had a microscopic problem with it. She dabbed at it and frowned at herself in the small hand mirror. "Tell us!" "Okay, Okay." Sakura grinned from ear to ear. "Principal Tsunade told us there's going to be new transfer students coming to Konoha High today!" Hinata gasped. "In the middle of second semester? That's a bit late, isn't it?"

"Well Konoha is one of the top schools in the area, there were quite a few that transferred in sophomore year. Remember Karin and Suigetsu?"

"I guess that's right. Where are they from, anyway?"

"Who cares?" Ino squealed. "There might be cute guys!" The bubblegum haired teen just rolled her eyes at her friend and Hinata giggled. "Did you get to see what they look like?" Tenten asked. Sakura shook her head, tucking her papers into her backpack and zipping the top.

"Guess we'll find out soon, huh?"
