You Can't Keep A Good Man Down
A year had passed since Captain Jack Harkness died of old age, after touching a rock that fell through the Rift. Torchwood Three was now being run by his lover, Ianto Jones. More efficiently too, even if he did say so himself.
Ianto was at Jack's grave, just like he was most days. He chatted to his lover as if he was there beside him, not eight feet below his feet.
"I've never known the Rift to be so quiet," said the Welshman, putting a single red rose against the head stone and placing a hand over the engraved hands entwined below Jack's name. "Not that I'm complaining, mind. I get to spend more time herE with you." Ianto could have been mistaken, but he could have sworn the earth beneath him moved. "Oh, did I speak too soon?" He laughed.
The earth began to shake all around him, as Ianto stepped back away from the grave. He frowned, running a hand through his hair. He watched as the earth covering the grave fell to one side. A hand pushed through, then another. Ianto couldn't believe his eyes.
Jack pushed as hard as he could, until he was clear of the grave. He stood up, covered in dirt and smiled at his lover. "Did ya miss me?" Jack had to grab Ianto by both arms to stop him from falling over.
"J-Jack! H-how?"
"I don't exactly know." He replied, pulling the younger man into his arms. "How long have I been down there?"
Ianto clung to him. "A-a year." He sniffed. "A bloody long year, too."
Jack lifted Ianto's chin so their eyes met. "I'm sorry it took so long."
"Did you know? I mean, that you would come back?"
Jack shook his head. "No."
They kissed.
"It's been hell!" Ianto told him.
Jack ran a hand through familiar hair, whispering endearments in his ear. Ianto melted against him. They remained like that for the longest time.
Finally, Jack held Ianto at arms length. "Tell me about Torchwood. I want to know everything."
Ianto smiled. "I run Torchwood Three now."
"I knew it!" said Jack, slapping Ianto on the chest.
Ianto smiled, but a faint blush crept up his neck to colour his cheeks.
"I bet it's run efficiently, too."
"But of course."
"Gwen? Tosh? Owen?"
"Are still with us."
Jack closed his eyes for a few seconds. "Good."
Ianto wiped away a tear. "I can't believe it's you!"
"Believe it," Jack told him.
"We need to tell the others."
"I've been buried for a year, Ianto Jones. Right now, all I want is you…naked…anywhere." Jack added, a glint in his blue eyes.
"The SUV is parked out front."
Jack looked around. "Where are we exactly?"
"Penarth."
"You had me buried in Penarth!"
Ianto nodded. "I couldn't bare to put you in the vault."
"I'm not sure if I'd have come back if I was in the vault. I think the earth had something to do with it."
"It gave something back," Ianto told him with a smile.
Turning, Jack looked at his head stone and smiled. "Your doing?"
Ianto nodded.
"I love it. Thank you." Jack winked. "Now, where did you say the SUV was?"
