The Lion King – Circle Complete

Act 1

Prologue

The years had passed faster than Vitani knew it. It was as if one day she was a cub, the next a teenager, than finally an adult. Zira's tough training had paid off. Vitani was now a strong, smart, agile lioness ready for battle. She had been brainwashed... taught to follow her mother's ways. Kovu fell for it easily, and Nuka obeyed only to please. Zira had planted burning hatred inside Vitani... Zira believed Vitani actually cared about Scar, and wanted to avenge with. But no, that wasn't the trickery used on Vitani. Vitani thought it was Simba's fault... His fault what happened to Kopa.

Vitani could barely remember his face. Soft, creamy fur, dashing green eyes, and a spurt of his brown mane growing in at the top. All that was left was vague memories. In particular Kopa falling into the river… a surge of fear and loss and anger going through Vitani. They were so young back then… so young. Yet their love for each other blossomed. But it had been cut short by that terrible incident. Vitani was never the same after that. In her mind, Simba killed him. She has been told by Zira that Simba killed his father and his uncle... so why not his son? He had seemed so nice though… queen Nala, too.

Every night Vitani snuck out of their den in the Outlands, scorching during the day yet freezing at night. She would look at the night sky, tears rolling down her face. Nuka told her the great kings of the past were up there. He always told her that the one next to the brightest was Scar, but somehow she didn't believe him. Nuka thought so highly of his father, yet Vitani, who wasn't his daughter, didn't see what was so great about him. She would ignore Nuka's constant droning about how Scar was so great, how he got the best spot in the sky. All Vitani would do is search for a star she could believe to be Kopa's. A star that would give her comfort... She never found such a star.
