Distractions

The thought of Rudy naked was a terrible one. It was one that Liesel did not want in her brain. She was only trying to do her homework, and the story that Rudy had told her that the previous day hijacked her ideas for a short story and replaced it with his non fiction. Why couldn't the saukerl just leave his stories to himself? Surely Rudy must be satisfied with getting that imprinted upon her mind. Actually, Rudy was not even thinking about the incident at the moment, he was too busy playing with his siblings.

Enter the eyes of the struggler once more. Rudy, homework, disturbing thoughts. It wasn't the worst situation she could have gotten herself into. At least she was alive. As I've said earlier, perpetual survivor. Said perpetual survivor's thoughts strayed once more. She thought of Max. Why did she think of Max? She thought of Max because she thought of words. Why did she think of words? She remembered that she had a project to complete.

A girl made of darkness is what she was at this point. "I am doomed to meet with a terrible fate I tell you!" Such drama. I understand her misery, however, because when it is late at night and you are not finished the project for the next day, it makes you pretty hysteric. Especially when the looming threat of a watschen is definite. Liesel wouldn't even have a valid excuse. Just imagine telling your teacher; "I didn't finish my story because a naked boy haunted my mind." That would go over well.

The Jesse Owens incident is what plagued Liesel's mind next. Rudy was a prime topic for her today, it seemed. She thought of Christmas, and the mannequin meeting. Perhaps she could do her story on a collection of occurrences? She agreed that that would do nicely. In a matter of a couple of hours, her story was three quarters of the way done. The book thief had completely disregarded the 'short' part of short story, and made it about 60 pages long, complete with illustrations. It was titled "A Small Collection of Stories for Rudy Steiner."
