The phone rang. Siegfried ran to pick it up. It was Lord Hulton - horse with colic. It sounded serious. Maybe one of those cases that requires staying up all night. He walked over to where James was sitting. "I've got a case - colic, sounds like an all nighter. I've got to leave. I'm sure you can manage between yourselves.. Richard will be able to help." With that he left for Lord Hulton's. The horse was a sad sight - a beautiful light gray, covered in sweat and stumbling round the box. After he had conducted an examination he was assured that it was hopeless. He went out to get the humane killer from the car. He walked back over to the box and positioned the bolt on the animal's head. The horse's knees buckled and it fell to the ground with a thud. Siegfried looked at the body sadly. "That's done, I suppose. I'd better be getting back." He walked slowly back to the car.
Back at Skeldale, Siegfried decided to see what his brother was doing. He walked around to the french doors and looked into the livingroom. James, Tristan, and Richard were sitting on the sofa; just then the phone rang. James ran to pick it up. After a minute James came back. "Calving, both legs back. I'll probably be an hour or two; I'm sure you two can manage." James left the room. Siegfried noticed that Richard inched closer to Tristan. Now he was a bit more interested. Tristan seemed to ignore Richard. Siegfried heard the door slam as James left. Richard moved closer; so close that he was almost touching Tristan. To Siegfried's surprise, Tristan put his arm around Richard's shoulders. That was odd - Tristan had always seemed to hate Richard with a passion… Siegfried's thoughts were interrupted when Tristan leaned over and.. kissed Richard…. Siegfried raised his eyebrows. Who would have thought…? Richard leaned into the kiss, and Tristan put his arms around Richard's waist. "That escalated quickly" he thought. They remained there for what seemed like minutes. "How can they breathe?" thought Siegfried. Then they finally parted. Tristan rested his head on Richard's shoulder. Siegfried decided to see his brother's reaction when he walked in through the french doors. When Tristan heard the door open he jumped. Richard immediately stood up and briskly strode out of the room. Tristan turned bright red, picked up a book, and started to pretend to read.
