Fifteen years.

That is what she had given him.

Fifteen damn years of her life. All the sorrow, happiness, and love she had in her.

Now it seemed like only yesterday they were back in that little town in Edinburgh. She just a young twenty-something recruit. Eager and ready to take on the world. Standing there in awe as he approached her, he was the powerful laird of the clan there for a meeting with some operatives. She had been drawn to him immediately. Powerfully built, massive presence. And the mask. It was so sinister, but so damn attractive.

Fifteen years of happiness and hell. Now as she stood here on the cliff overlooking the loch she felt the sharp searing pain engulf her. He was missing, her masked love.

The battle had not gone according to plan, but that was nothing new. Cobra Commander was not known for the best laid plans after all.

After the smoke had cleared, she had fled to the boarding house by the river and from there had come here.

His home, to wait for him as they had planned.

This was their last battle. He had promised her that, they were going to be free to live their lives.

Free of Cobra, the Joes. Free of them all.

But he never appeared.

The battle had been brutal; many lives on both sides had been lost. However, never in her wildest dreams would she ever believe that he would be lost too.

He was to smart, to powerful. When she got the word he was among the missing, she felt peace, not fear. That meant he had gotten away and he was coming for her.

One week went by, then two, then three.

Now standing here six months later, she felt the cold weight of truth settling in her heart. Freezing her soul. He was not coming for her, not coming home. Her love, her heart, was gone.

Somehow, somewhere he had slipped away from her. And she would never see him again. The finality of it choked her. How would she go on without that part of her heart that had made her whole? In a world filled with chaos and hate, she had found the one thing she had never had. The love and devotion of another human being. Tilting her face up to the sun, she felt the wind caress the salty tears from her face. Her hand protectively over the large warm mound of her stomach.

He had left her with the one gift that would help her to travel on through the cold world. The piece of him, the best piece he could ever give her. Their child.

She was leaving Scotland it was too hard to be here in their home. Every room echoed with a memory, his essence was everywhere. She could even still smell his cologne wafting through the air in the bathroom. She was not sure just yet where she would go. However, it had to be far from here.

Maybe she would comeback one day.

She liked to think so. But for now, it was safer for them if they were gone.

She adjusted her disguise, the blonde wig itched something fierce but she tugged it in place. Best not to be identified.

As far as Cobra or the Joes were concerned, she was one of the missing. She planned to keep it that way.

"I love you James," she whispered towards the massive castle.

Then she turned and made her way down the steep cliff. Taking her time along the path. She felt her baby kick and a smile softened her face. The woman formally known as the Baroness left the sight of her home behind her, and never looked back.

Thanks to everyone for your reviews. I still have much to learn, but the stories are banging inside my head! They want out!

I am working on one that is near and dear to my heart. Flint thinks the Red Shadows Dela killed Lady Jaye. But what if the woman he mourned and buried is the wrong one? Can't wait to upload the first draft! Till then Blessings!
