Janet: I own none of these great characters.
Operation Omega
Tank picked up his ringing cell phone. It was 2:30 am.
"This better be important", he growled into the phone.
The voice on the line firmly responded. "Operation Omega." The line went dead.
Tank sat up. He was instantly alert. His mind was already working. He had a lot to do and not a long time to do it in. He heard rustling on either side of his walls. He knew that Bobby and Les were also up and on the move.
Almost as if orchestrated they opened their apartment doors at the same time. They were fully dressed. Blank faces were firmly in place. They moved to the stairway. Taking the steps down two at a time, they moved to their vehicle.
The streets were quiet. They made quick time. Pulling up to the scene they disembarked stealthily. Tank led the charge into the residence. Bobby and Lester were close on his heels.
Silently they strode into the kitchen. There was a soft light in the corner of the room providing just enough light to scale down the darkness but not enough to produce a serious glare.
Standing quietly they observed movement. Finally, unable to contain their curiosity, they moved closer.
Could this really be happening? All their planning was finally coming together.
They tiptoed a bit closer. Now they could see clearly.
Stephanie and Ranger handed each of the men a cup of coffee. No words were spoken. Finally all five gave sighs of relief. It was finally over.
Tank, Lester and Bobby man turned to each other. They were parents.
Rex was a proud daddy watching from his cage. He puffed his chest out with pride, grabbed a grape and scurried into his soup can. His job was done. He could now relax.
Regina was the proud mommy of three babies. She sniffed them appreciably and headed to the other side of the cage. She would rest for a little bit, then return to nurse.
Tank, Lester and Bobby admired the little ones. They had already chosen their pet. In twenty one days, they could take them home.
They looked at the date. It was Valentines Day.
This is just a one shot.
My muse has completely left me. I think it is buried under the exorbitant amount of snow we are receiving this year. So far we are over 200% over our normal snowfall amount and it is only February!
Hopefully something will emerge. Until then, I am enjoying reading everyone else's wonderful contribution.
Happy Valentine's Day, everyone.
