Elizabeth was bleeding.

She lay on the ground, unconscious, unmoving.

Elizabeth was bleeding.

Stunner blasts ripped over his head towards his team who were desperately trying to keep the Wraith away from the gate.

Elizabeth was bleeding.

Ford was yelling something, his voice sounding strangely far away, something about falling back, but John just knelt there, staring at Elizabeth, a wraith stunner rifle embedded in her side. He hadn't seen her get stabbed, hadn't realised she was even down until he had tripped over her.

Ford and Teyla grabbed her body, and dragged it back towards the now open gate. John stayed on the ground, scared to move, scared to go through the gate and face the accusing stares, the questions. More than that, he was scared to find out if she would stop bleeding, if she would wake up, if she would ever forgive him.

Teyla had carried Elizabeth through the gate, Ford stood in front of the event horizon, waiting for him to come. Ford didn't understand, he couldn't understand. John didn't want to go.

And yet, what if she was alive? Could he let himself be taken without seeing her?

No. He stands, and runs for the gate. He never even felt the stunner that hit him as he stepped through the gate, never felt his body fall into the gate and through to Atlantis.

He did feel something as he woke up though. A hand, soft and warm on his arm.

"Hi John"
