I didn't know how I was gonna manage this one by myself. I mean, usually the girls are with me. Rei has better powers than me. Lita would be more equipped to handle this than me. Even Mina . . . but I was alone in this. My hands froze as I reached for my crystal wand. Maybe he would just go away and not realize I was Sailor Mercury and just think I'm some girl named Ami and just leave me be.
That thing was not going to leave me be. They weren't the kind of creatures that just left people be. I looked at it coming at me with lifeless eyes. It had to be one of hers. The dark sovereign. She has been the most powerful thing we have faced since the Queen Beryl.
"Mercury Crystal Power!" I displayed my wand for the creature to see and then I became enveloped in blue light, water, and power. I had transformed. I was Sailor Mercury, and I could handle this remnant of what used to be a soul. "Mercury Shabon Spray!" I looked through the fog and the creature was still lurking toward me sluggishly. I couldn't believe that thing was still coming. "Mercury Shabon Spray Freeze!" It was frozen, but not dead, and I had a sinking feeling it would not stay frozen. The ice began to crackle and tick and tiny shards broke off. This is gonna take more out of me than I expected. Did she send this thing to kill me? In an instant the ice encasing him burst open and flew like shards of glass. The look in his eyes was different now: Primal, Bloodthirsty. He had come to kill me.
I leapt back putting some space between me and the monster. "Shine Aqua Illusion!" Again, I slowed him down but nothing more. I was losing power. I only had one hope left and I didn't know if I was still strong enough to use it, but I was in a corner. I lifted my hands. "Mercury Aqua Rhapsody!" The creature was flooded far back and into light pole in the street. That's more like it. "Shine Aqua Illusion!" The creature was washed back more, this time into wall of a giant warehouse. He was weak and I was not, and this was my chance to finish him. "Mercury Double Shabon Spray Freeze!" He was clouded in bubbles and then cased in ice. The light had gone out of his eyes. I had finished him.
I transformed back into Ami, as not to draw any attention to myself. It's lucky no one saw that thing attack me, my identity would have been ruined. What was she coming for me for?
"Because you're always helping her."
"It's you. Why are you here? Why did you send that thing?"
"I created that thing to kill you. Clearly as worthless as the human I used to make it."
"What are you getting at . . . you can't mean -"
"Yes Ami, you killed him. Before you blasted that so called creature into oblivion, he was a man. A man with a wife and child."
"You demon! You gave me no choice!" My eyes became heavy. I began to reach for my wand.
"Don't bother, I'm done with you for today. Not that your bubbles would do much to me anyway."
"You will pay for this. There is only one of you."
"I wouldn't threaten me while there is only on of you."
"There is never going to be just one scout you're gonna have to defeat, and you can't take all of us."
"Ah, but one by one I can."
"Clearly you can't."
"Don't forget you killed a man today Ami," and then she vanished into nothing.
What had I done? I looked at where he had been. Disappeared like the soul that she stole from him. She gave me no choice! But still, I killed a man. He was just a man. He didn't have any part in her plan.
