Leafpool looked up from where she was tending to Cinderpaw's wound to find Jaypaw standing at the entrance to the medicine den. She knew he couldn't see her, but his sightless blue eyes were pointed straight at hers.

"Hi, Jaypaw," Leafpool meowed. "Could you help me find some catmint today? We're running low again."

"Again?" Jaypaw mewed. "That's got to be the third time this moon!"

Leafpool's ear twitched in annoyance. Why couldn't Jaypaw just listen to her for once without acting like a spoiled kit?

"Yes, and I expect-"

Suddenly she felt movement beside her flank and realized Cinderpaw was waking up.

"Don't get up," said Leafpool. "You still need rest." Cinderpaw just groaned in dissatisfaction and let her head fall to the ground once more.

Jaypaw started to pad away to the entrance of the den again.

"Jaypaw, why are you acting like this?" Leafpool breathed. "You know how important it is to gather as many herbs as possible so we're always ready."

Jaypaw snorted and padded back to her. "Why can't you do it, if it's so important to you?"

Leafpool gave up trying to reason with her grumpy apprentice. Maybe she should just talk to him later, when he isn't so unreasonable. She was the one that turned to leave this time.

"Hey Cinderpaw," she heard Jaypaw meow in Cinderpaw's ear. She turned around to look at them. "Did you know you're Cinderpelt?"

Leafpool was stricken at how he could have revealed this information with no care. How could he be so mouse-brained?

Cinderpaw yawned. "Yeah, I know. Spottedleaf told me in a dream. She was like, 'Yo Cinderpelt! I mean, Cinderpaw! We rebirthed you somehow! And you're gonna be a warrior this time!' And I was like, 'Cool!' Spottedleaf is rad."

Jaypaw twitched his whiskers.

"I don't get it."
