DARTH SIDEOUS: UNBOUND
Wrath of the Viyrans.
Prologue
Professor Brindel of the Serenno Scientific Institute mopped his brow. Viral strain XK-279 was not behaving as expected. If the projections were correct it should have repelled the Nitric Fluid. In fact it was just…absorbing it?
He checked his microscope again, and cross-referenced the image of the microbe's current appearance with its appearance 2 minutes ago.
Yes, it was now almost 2 times bigger.
He turned to one of the armed battle droids standing at the bulkhead door.
"Send a message to Count Dooku, tell him I have found something very interesting about this virus…"
The droid silently obeyed.
On the plus side, Dooku might increase his pay.
On the minus, he had no idea how viral strain XK-279 would influence the course of the Clone Wars. And he had no idea of the suffering this might cause.
Brindel glanced back at the rather large green blob down the microscope, and then checked his instruments.
The virus was indeed growing, but wasn't actually doing any harm to the surrounding tissue.
Before Brindel could check anything else the hologram projector in his pocket began bleeping.
It was Dooku.
Brindel brought out the small disc and tapped the little control on its rim.
Instantly, a three-dimensional holographic image of Dooku appeared.
"Ah, Brindel." Dooku spoke in his deep, upper-class voice. "I hear you have interesting news concerning the viral strain recovered at the research station on Nova 7…"
"Y-yes, Count." Brindel stammered (Count Dooku always frightened him). "The virus appears to be immune to any substance that could harm it. It just seems to…assimilate it and grow larger. It may be some sort of strange genetic mutation."
"Can that be useful?" Dooku asked.
"Ah…" Brindel was briefly lost for words, "…not in its natural form, my Lord. You see, it does no damage to any living tissue. It is little more than a parasite."
"Then it is useless." Dooku said, darkly. "I shall have to…"
"WAIT!" Brindel panicked. "I CAN MAKE IT WORK! If we can identify the genes that make XK-279 so resilient and attempt to combine them with the genes of another virus, a deadly one, then we will possess something totally unstoppable and totally destructive."
There was a long silence.
"Thank you for your theory, Brindel." Replied Dooku. "I will discuss the matter with my new science corps."
"W-what?" Brindel asked nervously.
"I thought you were taking too long and were demanding too much pay. I have had some droid experts in Virology constructed. The Geonosians wanted a hefty sum but it'll be cheaper in the long run, and they're more talented than you."
Brindel could hardly believe this.
"Y-you're not g-going to…kill me?"
"I'm afraid I have no choice." Dooku explained. "None of this can be known. None of it."
The battle droid in the corner raised his gun.
"NO!" he cried. "PLEASE NO!"
The droid paused.
"You heard the boss." He explained. "No evidence."
There was a flash of red laser, and Brindel Hydres of the Serenno Scientific Institute, the most renowned scientist in the system, was dead.
