Prompt: Food. This is open to interpretation. The only requirement is that your 100-word drabble feature some reference to food or eating.
He finds Narcissa at midday, sitting at the dining-room table.
She appears to be eating cake.
This in itself is highly unusual. His wife usually behaves as though her fondness for cream and sugar is a personal failing.
(It distresses her.)
It is something they do not discuss.
Today, however, she seems tired but not particularly distant. A little ill, perhaps, but not . . . unhappy.
"Cake?" he ventures.
She nods, and pushes the untouched glass of champagne towards him. "It's a celebration."
Lucius takes a sip, indulging her.
"A celebration?" he echoes, bewildered.
Narcissa smiles nervously.
