Chapter I
Artemis Fowl III
Today is the day I leave fot St. Lawrence. I was dreading it more than words can describe alone. It would be the same as every other place. Every other place being the many schools I've 'visited'. They've shipped me off so many times I've lost count.... I held out my white polo shirt, frowning. A school uniform... one of the many weapons schools have: to take away you're individuality. St. Lawrence had the worst idea of unifroms. I scowled distastfully. Well, in any case... I wouldn't be broken without a good fight. No one messes with Artemis Fowl III. As my father said countless times before, 'Artemis the Hunter'. It seemed to happen that there were ocassions where I thought it was Artemis the Hunted. I sighed.
"Artemis! Time to go!" called my mother from down stairs.
Holly Fowl, the only... The woman...fairy... to break Taboo.
"Please hurry. Are you packed yet?"
She was different from people. A lot of people have been sorely mistaken, passing her for a human... and she looked quite like one, seeing as, when she gave up half her magic to be with Father, her fairy appearance faded. It was hardly noticable, despite the fact that she was only 5' 3" and she always wore her hair long. I know better. She's no human at all, she's fairy... and I have half her fairy blood. I knew this from the hundreds of disks containing my father's journal. he should better protect his things. Oh well... stupidity was not my problem.... It only took me ten minutes to crack the code on it. It was rather annoying... I couldn't even get a challenge from Father.
"ARTEMIS!"
"Fine, I'm packed, Mother." I sighed in exasperation.
"Come down here!"
I scowled on last time, shoved my clothes in my suitcase, and hurried to the stairs. I met Father there, and my stomach churned unpleasantly. His pale face was even paler -which was saying something-
