Obviously I don't own Bones.

This is my first attempt at a short story. I always wondered how Bones would react if Booth faked his death again...

Read and Review!!

Thanks.

Gone Again

*Flashback*

"BOOTH! RUN!" Bones came pelting out of the warehouse.

"Bones? What's wrong?" Booth started towards her.

"BOMB!" She screamed.

Booth didn't pause, he didn't think as he ran to Bones, throwing her behind him as an explosion rocked the air.

"BOOTH!" Bones screamed as a white light engulfed him. Hot flames licked at her skin, but she did not notice. Her only concern was her partner. He must be safe, he must be safe. Bones groped blindly for him.

*Flashback*

Bones was standing in front of the tombstone, flowers in hand.

"I really don't see what the attraction you saw in me doing this. I don' really think you can hear me..." She sighed. Why had Booth had to die? She'd been the one who'd been foolish enough to chase that psycho, yet he was the one who had to pay the price... Why did he always have to be so heroic? Leaving Parker behind... Parker. Suddenly Bones felt angry.

"Did you think about Parker? He misses you so much! So do I! Why did you have to die?" The anger flooded out of Bones as swiftly as it appeared.

"I mean it's just really not good timing. I never got the chance to tell you... How I feel. Which is something you always thought was important. I don't understand why. Feelings are so useless and irrational. I don't understand why you protected me from the blast Booth... I mean some people would say that skill in my career would make me more valuable. But I have to disagree with those people. You Booth, you have a child... That already means you had more to live for than I do. Your foolish alpha male instincts betrayed you. I've always told you I don't need protecting. Why didn't you listen? You can be so irrational sometimes. I suppose that's why I love you. Yes, there, are you happy? I said it. I love you Seely Booth, for all your faults... Which are few and far between. I love you, I wish I told you while you were alive. I really miss you. I don't think I will ever stop." Tears were pouring down her cheeks as she seemed to pull herself together again.

"See, if you had just held on for even a year more I may have told you. But of course you would have to pick the most inconvenient timing possible."

"Let me get this straight. I'm dead, and you're mad about the timing?"

Bones spun around and saw a tall, dark figure grinning sheepishly at her.

"They took my phone, refused to let me call. I hit another agent Bones! Just so I could call you. Except they still didn't let me... They wanted to see if it would lure some serial killer out of hiding..." Bones was standing in front of Booth by the time he trailed off. She stared at him for a moment, then.

*SMACK*

Not for the first time, her fist connected with his cheek. Then before Booth could recover she pulled him towards her, and their lips connected.

"I knew it." Booth smiled as they pulled apart. Bones rested her head on his chest.

"I love you." She whispered.

"I love you." His hands cupped her face and pulled her back to him. For a moment, they were not Agent Booth and Doctor Brennan, no official FBI partners. They were simply Seely and Temperance, a couple finally united.
