River Song cried as she placed her new born son on the doorstep of a posh old house in London, The Doctor kissed the infants forehead and whispered "I love you" as the couple left their only child on Earth. The Doctor held his wife in his arms and led her back to the TARDIS. As they stepped inside the old blue police box, the Doctor looked at his sleeping child and muttered "I love you, Sherlock"
Seven year old Mycroft Holmes was late for school. He dashed around his family home collecting books and pencils that he would need for the day.
"Bye Mummy! Bye Father!" He yelled, as he leapt out of the front door, as he went to run down the long driveway to the bus stop, but he didn't. Mycroft was suddenly aware that had he taken another step he would have stepped on a sleeping baby. He picked the child up in his arms "What are you doing here?" He wondered out loud. Mycroft held the baby up, it was wrapped in a white blanket with strange intricate circular designs embroidered onto it, Mycroft stroked the child's short black curls. He sat on the ground and held the child on his lap, Mycroft was surprised it hadn't woken up yet, so he turned the baby onto its back, as he did, a small piece of paper dropped onto the ground next to him. Mycroft read it, it said
Dear Mr Holmes.
This is my son Sherlock. He cannot safely live on the TARDIS with me or River, so I have sent him here to live with you. I hope I can trust you to take good care of him.
Many thanks.
~The Doctor.
Mycroft wasn't sure what a TARDIS was, or who this 'Doctor' was, but he decided being late for school was not as important as taking care of a baby. He snuck back inside and up to his room, Sherlock in his arms began to stir, Mycroft placed him on his bed and went back downstairs to tell his parents.
36 years later Sherlock Holmes had no idea he was adopted, until one day when he was sorting through his old belongings he found a small piece of paper and a blanket. "Doctor?" Sherlock muttered as he read the note. He didn't know who this 'Doctor' was, but he felt something in his gut that said it was important. He saw images flash before his eyes. A woman with lots of curly blonde hair, and a man with a bowtie. There was something else too, Sherlock was genuinely confused, but he thought he could see something large and blue.
"Sherlock?!" John just arrived home from a day at work; he walked into Sherlock's room only to see the detective in tears lying on the floor "Sherlock, what happened?" John asked
"I was sorting through my old stuff and I found this" Sherlock handed John the note, John read it, his eyes widened as he reached the end
"Would this then explain the police box in the kitchen?"
