Waiting for the Hero
The bars of the ice cage haven't changed since the last time Princess Bubblegum had seen them, nor have the walls and the floor. Everything is blue and white, which only brings more attention to her own pink body. The Ice King's crown would stick out quite nicely too if he hadn't left some time ago to prepare for the wedding ceremony. She doesn't know how long it's been, and her throat is still sore from yelling at him.
She hopes Finn will get here soon. Peppermint Butler can handle most of her duties, but only for a few hours. After all, it is her kingdom. Princess Bubblegum knows it better than anyone.
She wonders why she let herself be kidnapped again. The Ice King has certainly become more cautious with her after the second Ricardio incident, but not even ice manacles can stop her if she truly fights back. And she hadn't. In exchange, she receives a few hour of waiting. Finn will rescue her, and she won't have to worry about anything for a few hours. The Ice King will fail in his wedding plans. She just has to wait and accept this small break in her schedule.
The hours tick on. Princess Bubblegum sits down, her legs tired and her body shivering. Maybe Finn isn't coming. He has Flame Princess now. He doesn't have to be Princess Bubblegum's hero anymore.
The Princess bites her lip. If she doesn't have Finn, she has no one. Peppermint Butler, Cinnamon Bun, Lady, and her people would certainly try, but they are not adventurers. They are not heroes. She cannot allow them to be put in danger, no matter how small. Her duty is to protect them!
Squeezing her eyes shut, Princess Bubblegum hugs her knees and wonders why she continues to wait in this cold cell. Just who is she playing the damsel for?
